    Recommend a photo print service

Just back from a week's holiday in the Isle of Wight and have some nice piccies I want printed off and framed. Now I already have a place in mind for framing them but I've got no idea where to get the photos printed without being ripped off. I want GOOD prints - probably all A4 size - the framing will take care of any excess 'white space' (as well as correcting various errors I've also cropped most of them... My photography skills aren't that great but photoshop has helped a LOT)... So can anyone recommend somewhere - on or off-line?

I know that you can just walk into Jessops with your memory card and drop it in their machine (Most Boots have a Kodak machine too).

I haven't used it yet, but would imagine the results would have to be quite good (depending on your resolution), else it would get shouted out of the shop.

The Boots Kodak machine costs a BOMB, they're around 49p per print

Boots did have an offer on for digital prints though, over 50 and you only pay 10p per print.

I used to work for Jessops. The stores which have an in house lab with a Fuji Frontier machine* are capable of excellent prints if you feed them a good enough source picture. They don't do A4 unfortunately, the nearest sizes are 8x10 or 8x12, although if you're getting them framed professionally they'll be able to cut a mask to fit them perfectly.

If you're printing to that sort of size, I'd make sure your pictures are at least 4mp in size, although if you're going to put them on the wall and not inspect them from too close up you might be able to get away with a bit less.

Last time I checked 8x10s were about £2.50 each, although they might have changed the prices since then. If you stuck to 9x6 they do a price for a run of them, larger sizes are priced individually.

    Rich :¬)

*just look over the counter, it should be obvious what the machine is, most stores will have a Frontier 350 or something similar. If not you can just ask if they have a Fuji Frontier.
