    I leave mine on most of the time. . . As alot of people turn on in morning - turn off before going to bed. . And as said by many "because of the chuffing noise!"

    But it gets left on now and again over night.

    Currently my computer is a laptop which is very quiet but will run around 55c when left on for more than 2 hours so turning this one off at night. I used to keep my tower running on a 24/7 basis but later turned it off due to the noise that it was making.

    I have a smoothwall box which is on 24/7 as it is connected to the internet and routes out the internet connection to every other client in the house. Otherwise i only keep the other machines on as long as they need to be on.

    Huge waste of energy to leave the PC on 24/7. My own is on when it is needed and off most of the time it is not...

    Edit - Weeeeeee my 100th post!!!!

    Not if it's crunching FAD like mine. I switch the monitor off when I'm not using it of course.

    I have seen upwards of 30 days uptime on some of my boxes, but nowadays I tend to reboot once or twice a week as I play a lot of Tribes 2 and it's a bit of a buggy game.

    generally always on - occasionally requires a reboot for software etc - never crashes.

    2 weeks 3 days uptime and had to reboot last nite for a new secure client install.

    One server i currently look after has been up since january 1st 2001......it was restaarted over the y2k stuff and has been on ever since.

    Ah but you're using it, not leaving it sit there. Just wondering what the point of leaving it on all the time is just in case you may fancy using it?

    The longest time I have left my system on for was 3 weeks, without a restart. It was running smooth too!

    But normally 72 hours is the most.

    My gateway runs 24/7 - if my main rig was quiet enough, it would too. As it stands, it runs all day, but not overnight.
    PHP Code:
    $s = new signature();
    $s->sarcasm()->intellect()->font('Courier New')->display();

    I only have 2 fans (one in the zalman PSU and one CPU) in mine so it's quite quiet - leave it crunching UD/SETI/FAD and downloading/uploading stuff.

    Use it as a testbed for software as well, keeps the other computers clean of crap if I installed something I didnt like and had to install it again.

    Web server is on 24x7

    Main PC is on briefly in the morning while I check mail, then when I get home for most of the evening, and all weekend.

    Second PC is usually only brought up for hotfixing/service packing and when friends come over.

    Scratch PC is just when I'm doing test builds of different OSs, applications, etc. - I'll get round to installing Virtual Server 2005 if it will take it, very handy util that
