Do you keep the pics on the camera's SD card, or do you write over them?

This will probably draw some derision, but I've largely steered clear of cloud storage - it seems you hear of these types of things being cracked/compromised almost on a weekly basis.

There's probably a couple of gigs on some cards, but I've accumulated over 90GB of photographs of the years.

My portable drive, the one that's giving me so much pain, is a WD USB 3.0 drive, Kov. I hope your experience is better than mine.

That's pants Dave, finger's crossed you get at least the majority of it recovered.

Damn now I'm scared. Might just use one of my internal just as a back up. Thanks for letting me know bud.

    My day just improved.

Looks like I've managed to recover 90-95% of the important stuff - lost a few pics, and a few more were partially corrupted, but I'll take that as a shot across the bow.

Gunna save up and git me one o them thur NASty Boxes.

    I thinking a twin disk RAID1 setup.

Dave, I'm glad it didn't turn out too bad.

Pick up a synology nas, I've got one and they're a great piece of kit.

I back up all my important data in four separate places,

    Nas box
    Main PC
    Portable hard drive
Another portable hard drive in a family members house.

    Paranoid eh!
