    Re: Grangemouth Plant Closes

its a PR disaster for them anyway -

Ineos - we have to make cuts or we have to close

unite - ok well call your bluff *STRIKE MEN*

Ineos - ok were shutting the company

Unite - oops the bully tactics don't work - they actually meant it....

    Re: Grangemouth Plant Closes

What still astonishes me is the PR spin McCluskey tries to put on this, saying (along with Salmond) we "won't allow" the plant to close.

    Excuse me?

Unless either Unite or the Scottish government are prepared to buy and run the site, that decision is not in their power to make.

What he really means is that they'll go back to the company, begging on bended knee for them to reconsider and let them accept the terms they previously rejected, to let them out from under some of the disaster this would be for Unite, and hope and pray Ineos are charitable enough to give a minor concession or two Unite can use to save face.

How McCluskey has the sheer effrontery to say he won't "allow" it, when now the entire country knows Ineos has him by the gonads and he doesn't even control how hard they squeeze, beats me. What an egotist.

I always wondered what Santa's day job (other than cleaning up after the reindeer) was. I think I now know.

Now, now gentlemen, guesswork is very misleading

Incidentally, the knee-jerk posting early in this thread is hilarious. Luckily, Unite saved the day in 24 hours .

But taken into context, no Joe Bloggs off the street can walk into the work Grangeplant does. It's specialist and needs training. It's also privately run and has higher risks and rewards to an extent.

I'm aghast. How dare ordinary people earn a living wage. I bet they get a bonus too. And expense accounts. And shares. And taxpayer handouts.

    It's a McTravesty.

Because the whole enterprise was going to be shut down. The point is that these are skilled workers, whom thanks to massive bungling by unite, have a uncertain future. There was already a large variance in pay, and ultimately people earning three times the median average wage, should be less vulnerable to a pay cut than others.

Unite in Falkirk has been, well I don't think corrupt is the correct word, but a bunch of *****. They have been busy trying to attack democracy, and ultimately not looking at the firm.

The company that owns the plant is run by someone who is a bit of a gambler, he got lucky with the Shale Gas expansion in the US. The plant currently isn't profitable and ultimately needs to be retasked.

Unite have not remotely helped the situation. They have shown no sign of actually providing a long term sustainable deal for their members.

Meanwhile, unite will have been taking their dues, and recently stopped funding them automatically to a political party. I am sure that is in no way to do with that whole Falkirk seat thing.

The sooner corrupt arseholes are weeded out, the better. Unite don't do anything positive in todays world.
