Wink Paypal Fees! you may want to read this :)

I have a long history with paypal and it's fair to say if I could get away without using them i would.

Before I say what i'm going to say, I would like to say that the guy i spoke to at paypal was good and he, kept calm even when I got a little heated. So here's what just happened....

I sold a bitcoin miner on Ebay for over £1000 and got stung with charges from ebay £76 and 3.4% from paypal.

I had honestly believed that a paypal personal account was free, and without fees for sending and receiving . I called paypal to argue that the "personal account" was free, and all fees were for business or premiere only. They told me that it has not been this way for years, and that, i have always paid fees on my account. Sure enough I look back and have paid fees on my account since it was opened. I was shocked, as i never noticed.... but I continued to argue the case, that if personal accounts are not free, why is this link still here...

    https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/websc...n/fees-outside

EDIT. (you need to be logged in to see the correct link)

So they are now crediting back all my fees from the start of my account to now! It was done within 20 mins.

Finally 1 up on paypal, after years of losing. If you have a personal account with paypal, might be worth trying to do the same and claim back all your fees before they take down the link..

Once again the guy on the phone needs a promotion, he was very good in the way he dealt with me.

I guess it would depend.. but i'm sure it would be worth a try.

I'm a regular-ish seller maybe 1 or 2 items a month. All the paypal fees credited back

I cashed out to my bank now before they change their mind

I'm confused. The link you provided states "Selling something 1.4%-3.4%". Where's the "free" part? or am I missing the point?

    The cheek :O. That's awful!!

    Contacting!

EDIT: Just looking over the fees incurred over the past few years; quite a chunk it seems.

That's terrible. Been unaware of this thanks j1979. And to think I quite liked PayPal

Well, at least the link was used by someone getting a large sizable amount of money back from it.

Just think, could have been cited by someone complaining over a few pence!

I might have to give them a call also.

I dont like how ebay own paypal and they take a cut off both services. I do not mind paying a small fee but not a percentage of my takings.

I dont sell much on ebay but i am at the moment so maybe worth the effort.

Well done on the refund of fees.

I don't think that the Paypal fees are that bad. Being able to accept card payments ad-hoc, with no commitment or monthly subscription is a fine thing.

Selling stuff on Ebay on the other hand, I gave up on a very long time ago. Gumtree all the way, even if it hugely limits the potential buyer circle.

    Isn't Gumtree owned by Ebay?

Yes for anything you ever sold on ebay, if you received money in paypal and you have / had a "personal account" then you should be able to claim back all those 3.4% fees.
