Has the 'Big Brother' TV concept gone too far?

Was reading today in one of the papers that they are actually thinking of a 'Big Brother Forever'

Yes folks, the Trueman show could be here, soon. It will be like a small town, televised and interwebbed 24/7. The only thing that seems to be stopping them, is what to do if someone dies! What sort of loon is going to sign up for this?

The Germans apparently have one running for a year that ends in March (IIRC).

Sooo..... Is this getting a bit much?

Off with it's head!! Off with it's head! grr.. useless crappy television... they should use that time to try and get people to understand important things, about people, ordinary people and the not so ordinary people that have influenced history to make today what it is.. not some glory seeking bints locked in a house for 10 weeks being utter drama queens (blokes included) and generally annoying the posterior off of anyone with but an ounce of grey matter inside their skulls...

As long as it doesnt affect the media too much I wouldnt mind it. Problem with Big Brother was it was everywhere and always on TV, which got sooo boring. So as long as the media coverage is quite low key, say a column of updates maybe a day and say an hour show at like 11pm or somehting. i wouldnt really care.

the first BB was fine because it was new and a fairly good idea for an original program the problem was the media coverage that went on and on and on and on and on about it with out a moments rest, maybe it was a quiet summer, maybe it was a quiet summer because no other topic could get a look in. But after the first one the contestants knew what they were in for and 'played' to it to an extent, which made the show lose its original edge, and the fact it had been 'done' also contributed to it's fall.

Frankly i always thought it smelt like a pile of grandads old sweaty slippers. But thats just me.

^^What he said, except that I did originally enjoy the original series. Now there's the sun offering prizes to the first couple to shag on live TV, which perssonally I think is just wrong. I bet they don't even like each other now, and just sleep with each other for the cash...

I don't actually like big brother much, but after a week or two of it starting, I do usually start to dip in and out when I'm bored, just to see what all the fuss is about. I wouldn't be too bothered if it dissappeared of the face of the Earth. I do think that a truman style show if a bit (well, a lot) far. It would get boring very quickly, and there are too many ethical implications. Not only if someone dies, I think the bigger problem is if someone has a baby. Do they force it to grow up in the show, or give it a choice?

To summarise, I think that reality TV has lost it's appeal, because like anything that people like, it's been done so many times now that people are sick of it.

reality TV == the worst TV available. Big brother was good for the first series, even the second had some merit. but after that it went downhill fast. the many spin offs [eg survivor, and that aweful vomit inducing 'im a celeb get me out of here'] just made things worse. Why cant ppl realise what drivel it is, and replace it with some good eld sitcoms or dramas

Actually the only ever big brother that i enjoyed was the first celeberity one with jack dee. He constantly tried to escape and break out the compound

Come chucking out time he'd always sit by the door with flat cap and suitcase ready to run!!!

All reality TV should be destroyed.

Along with the people who thought of the idea.

And the people who volunteered to be on it.

Its not too bad, but its definitely bad. They went a little more extreme this year and it didn't really work.

All depends if you watch it a lot you kinda get into it because you know the characters.

OK... Big Brother 1... Fantastic, I must confess I was glued. Mainly due to the interweb site running in tandem. But it was novel, and ground breaking (ish).

    But... Since then we've had...

    BB2
    BB3
    Celebrity BB
    Survivor (Just watchable)
    Survivor 2
Im a cretin get me out of here
    Im a cretin 2 (and 3? can't remember)
    The Farm
My big fat /something/ fiance (this was american - but it was shown here) -awful!
That comedy one thats running on CH5 at the mo *edit* Kings of Comedy IIRC

I could go on... But you'd shoot me
