Does anyone have any experience of rings and warranties? ie a stone falls out of one... it was resized in the shop before fitting. The only trouble is... we haven't found the stone yet, and this was NOT a cheap ring

how old is the ring, and where did you buy it from?
Chances are the shop will have an insurance policy for this kind of damage, I know the jewellers i worked in did

April this year - from a jewellers in Chichester. Another annoying thing is shes actually been very careful with it, never wears it in th kitchen or when sleeping so the metal has absolutely no damage, which I guess is a good thing.

hmm, you may find that the shop will be resistant to doing anything about it, particularly if its an independant jeweller. If you can find the stone they may get it re set as a gesture but i doubt it unless the re-sizing was very recent
Your house insurance might cover the damage

Depends the sort of jewlers - I am presuming this is an expensive one? i.e 500+
Im not a jeweller, but I do work with diamond and metals. If you can find the stone, it shouldnt be too hard for them to reset, and so shouldnt cost too much (but if it was expensive, youll pay a lot anyway..). Wouldnt take a skilled jeweller long Id imagine..
Diamonds dont join with metals, there has to be enough metal around it to hold it in, or it falls out. Its quite easy for them to come lose. Not sure how they would reset it, probably re-soldering with silver/brass solder?
Problem is silver is very soft, and can easly be weakened...
How big was the stone?
If you dont know where it is, they are not atall easy to find again, as I expect you will now know...
I imagine it was set in 18k gold?
The problem you will encounter is that the shop will try and disavow responsibilty as the item is worn everyday.
Getting it reset costs the shop around £15-£20, they will then charge you 3-4x that amount.
How recently was the re-size done?

I'm about to start looking in my own bowels... Sort of given up hope on finding it now, though its definately in the house, somewhere...Originally Posted by |SilentDeath|
The actual stone was a princess cut (erm, or princes cut, square thing - i'd have to look!) set in a white gold band, but we have bare (old) floorboards, and old floorboards aren't exactly set close together... oh, and we have a cat that thinks its a magpie.
This weeks going from bad to worse, kitten died on sunday too not driving to work tomorrow, thats for sure... think i'll just stay home and browse hexus!
Resize was done at time of purchase.
