Strange electricity - pants

Hi,
Im hoping to get a mature response to this as my colleagues are no help About a week ago I put some Acoustipack stuff in my machine to help reduce the noise and this seemed to help a bit, however since then Ive had a problem. At night when Im playing I can hear a rustling sound *rustle* and I dont know where its coming from , anyway this happens all night or so usually when I shift position in my chair,

it was then that first night I discovered a major problem, when I get up to leave the chair I get a tingling in the pants and then *smack* a static discharge which occurs in the pants area of my trousers, Im not joking it was terrible and has occurred since, so for the moment IM offline and not using the pc..

Ive tried to remove the acoustipack stuff but it wont come off and Im seriously worried about sitting down again as it bl**dy hurts!!

anybody know what might be causing this?

Seriously. Sounds like your PC is not grounding properly and this maybe being transferred down the mouse/kb to your hands, and then onto your private area as it interfaces with the proable static fest seat.

Am unsure of an answer... try a different PSU?

Ill try and see if its a grounding problem, I wondered if it was static electricity building up in my courduroys as apparently these do build up static electricity, Ill try an earth wire tonight - sense of foreboding though as theres only one way to test it

LOL!! Oh dear. I used to have an old chair that shocked me whenever I touched the metal legs. Broke one of them off in the end from leaning back on it

I have a customer with this problem.. I walk across their office, and walk back.. and I've built up enough charge to produce a 4mm spark (big charge). Anyhoo.. what i do is walk around with a screwdriver, hold onto the metal bit and just tip a grounded object. doesn't hurt cos all the EMF is going through the end of the screwdriver, but it's discharging me as well. Also used to happen in the car too. Hold onto something grounded as you get up - it's probably that action that's causing the build up. so if you ground yourself BEFORE and AS you get up, there won't be an arc as the separation between your arse and the seat increases.

Heh Ill try rubber pants not that I have any!! Grounding has worked so far tho and an anti static wrist strap that I thought was uselress - no shocks so far!!

Well that anti static wriststrap works wonders I know what causes it now, theres a metal bar under the rim of the deak that goes back through the deak and eventually toucjes the psu case, very weird but anyway I thought thats gotta be it so I took the wrist strap offf......*Smack*
