i'm quite lookin forward to Sept 11th, cos i get to see Rancid the memories of how many people died will still be shocking though. on a different note, and airing my political views, Sept 11th was good in a way that it showed america that it can't be a big bully any more, and that others can harm it in a similar way it harms them. peace.

if war is the answer, then we are asking the wrong question

Well I can’t see that any ends could even slightly justify the means taken on 9-11. On a political note, what did it really achieve, more support for right wing US politicians? Certainly not any support for people like the Palestinians, for which some involved claimed it was done for.

i think sept 11th is no different from any other terroist attack and tbh i wish ppl would just stfu about it. if it happened to any other county it would have had 5 mins on the news and that would be the end of it. a lot of ppl died, but imo the US deserved to get attacked (no, i dont mean innocent ppl deserved to die!), but the US need to learn they dont control the world, and for example cant attack iraq just cos they want more, and cheaper oil. theres no proof of WMD so far, and saddam is not dead, just his sons which imo should have been treated like any other criminals and be put in prison ([if the US could acctually stabilise Iraq, which they are doing very badly] not shot, and have pictures of there mutilated bodys released by the US to improve support for their campaign)

bushes "war on terror" is just an excuse to retaliate to the retailiation of what the us has done before. i think the event could have been avioded, and certianly Iraq war could have, which was just to get cheap oil and for them to show they have power after not getting bin laiden.

note that religion has been the cause of most of all wars so far, and (i might not be right here!) i assume most ppl in afganhistan / surrounding countrys are very religios, and in europe/us there is a lot less relgion. personally i dont belive in religion, some of the religios things u learn from it are usefull - but common sence anyway. i can see in future a lot less ppl being religios and more stuff like sexism and racism disapearing.

sorry for the crap spelling i cba to type properly atm

and all those in Britain, its 11-9, get it right!

Well, I think Spetember 11th gets so much publicity because of the scale of the event, that’s what makes it different. The problem with marking something every year is, at what point do you stop, five years, ten years, fifty?

As for WMD, politician, bloody idiots most of them, you really start to wonder if Arnie would be better. They did find traces of enriched Uranium, normally only used in Nuclear Weapons in Iraq a few days ago, I’ve not heard of it since though. To be honest, in my opinion, WMDs are a selfish reason to go to war. What about the people of Iraq, now a war to free them and make their lives better, I support. Unfortunately the UN is so full of corrupt countries that it can do nothing. The people of Bosnia are better off, the people of Afghanistan are better off, and I hope, if the USA doesn’t mess it up, that the people of Iraq maybe better off, only time will tell though.

What I don’t understand is why the USA doesn’t try to get off oil dependence, and go for greener, possibly cheaper alternatives, oh yes I do, <cough>big oil companies<cough>. “Fossil Fuels: use us and nobody gets hurt” (From the Simpson’s when Homer has to go to the Energy fair with Mindy)

Well I wouldn’t say Religion generally is a direct cause of war. It’s more the hatred for people that are “different”, which organised religion seems to breed. I’d certainly like to see prejudice reduced, and I sometimes think that if tomorrow, all organised religion were removed the world would be a better place.

The events of 9/11 shocked us all. So many innocents lost their lives in a malicious attack by gutless extremeist sub-human terrorists. This kind of thing shakes what little faith you have in society in general. While i dont believe in all of president bush's 'methods' of eliminating terror from the world, at least lessons have been learned.

As for more attacks- more are definately planned and this is very worrying. It scares me to think that we are nearly powerless to stop crazed extremists such as bin laden. It is ALWAYS the innocent masses who suffer but to these 'animals' no price is to great to make way for their accomplishment

what sickened me was what I heard on the Radio this morning.

People are sueing not only the airlines for their "lack of security" but the WTC for apparently making it hard for people to get out.

this is clearly a case of lawyers trying to make money out of people grief.

The blame goes to those terroists ( sorry, Unlawfull combatents ).

Why must someone cash in on this ?

Yet again we see the underlying message that America somehow deserved it.

The entire act was a barbaric atrocity, and not just Americans died in it. I'd like you to tell the families of the British dead that America deserved it.

We all watch the images in fascinated horror, people jumping to escape the heat and flames in the certain knowledge that they would die.

Regardless of your view of American foreign poilicy, it was a cold blooded attack on a civilian target, designed to inflict maximum damage and casualties on innocent people going about their daily business.

It was an evil atrocity that was commited by individuals with no regard for human life.

A little respect for the dead please.

Please, please dont play around in this thread ok. Xtr did ask for people to be serious due to the subject of this thread and comments such as this are sickening- no other way i can describe it. Your choice of joke smileys in such a somber thread only highlights your total lack of consideration and blatant lack of maturity.

I think (and hope!) Biggeh just worded it badly. It's like saying the footage is "terrifying and amazing"

The events were tragic because so many innocent people died. But how many people suffer/die because of third world explotation or any other 'bad' event, is it ok because it happens all the time?

I mean this with as much respect as possible when i say i do not like seeing an event getting more "limelight" than another.

Sorry to whoever I have just offended :/

I agree that any attack on innocent civilians, is a barbaric act
and has no justification.....But then these attacks against civilians
have been going on for decades since I was born and they
    continue to happen.

In my eyes I see no diff between
an innocent american killed and an innocent afghanistan
killed.....American,s see themsleves as somehow untouchable,
There not, But Due to the Dominance both of American media
and Miltary power...We get sept 11th stuck down our throats
like it was the be all and end all.....Maybe for them but not for me.

The extreme right wing had a field day about sept the 11th
the muslims became the new communists overnight....it shows
the level of ignorance not only over there but also over
here....recently they asked 7yr olds within the uk what they thought of muslims...7 out of 10 thought they were terrorists.

The aftermath of sept 11th has brought about many
ramifications ...some seen, some unseen, I personally
was stopped by police in london, as part of a stop and
    search for terrorists....when i asked y i was stopped
I was told it was terrorism checks....I replied ...are you
sure it wasnt coz i have a beard....I knew i should of had a shave,
at exactly the same time another car behind us was stopped
and low and behold if that guy didnt have a beard as well...
    You couldnt make this up!

The funny thing about the above is:
If the IRA have been bombing this country
for years, inc a rocket attack on the mi5 building
in London, Do the coppers honestly think
they or anyone else could stop one of
these crackpot terrorists who are prepared
to go futher then any ira member...
ie blow themsleves up, by stopping
the random bloke with a beard..lol

Thats the most ironic thing of all,
that there has not as of yet been
    a terrorist attack in London,
    Despite this goverments spin doctoring.
We live in a fugged up world in many
ways...where there is no excuse for
    ignorance....but were ignorance in
    many forms is rife.

Will i be mourning on the 11-9,
    No, no way..... thousands
of innocents from around the world
have died the past 2yrs...no one will
be mourning or even know about them.

It was a very sad and tragic event. One thing that made me sick was when I saw it all on DVD in Virgin. I just hope that it wasnt some one cashing in on this because that would be sick. If it was going to some form of charity to help build what ever they are building now in replacements or for the fire forces or people who lost families in there. Does any one know where that money is going?

I think people should think before making sweeping generalisations like “Americans see themselves as somehow untouchable”, because I think we are all sensible enough here to know that statements like this tend not to be true.

Fair enough if you feel no need to mourn the event realityx, although I don’t agree with your argument, just because we can’t/don’t mourn everyone, does not means we should mourn no one at all. As I mentioned before, the problem is that once you start marking an event annually, after how many years do you stop.

Ugh, 9-11 on DVD, that’s pretty poor taste, even if it is for charity IMO.

in america, what did u expect to happen?

america is like a car, but it runs on money.

A little respect for the dead please.
they lost the respect that i had for them when i heard about the event so many times, the 1st time i heard it was tragic and shocking, now it is annoying and i dont really care.

more terrorist events will happen, hopefully in america, as i think they still need to learn how to deal with them, declaring war on terrorists is clearly just going to encourage them to do it again.

the US had no right to enter iraq, or afganistan, for that matter, they may be a superpower, but if a few terrorist, or lets say 50% of a country hates america, and america attacks the terrorist in THEIR country, the rest of those 50% are not going to like it (which will end up with innocents attacking US solders, and some of both will die.)

the fact that steriotyping is happening so much, and that as soon as a rare event happens u get terrorist checks, which clearly wil do fa to prevent the problem, proves that there is no stopping these ppl, so imo, the US shouldnt try to piss them off cos they will only end up worse.

also, the terrorist checks, were they just to get publicity that the goverments are trying to do something (even if it clearly wont help) to prevent ppl from being scared? the amount that the media affects events like this is shocking, and purely annoying.

neither do i like the amount of american stuff produced which has there flag on it *made in america* thats a reson not to buy it imo.

so to sum up this post, i hate america (yes, a sterio type, i dont hate everyone there, that would be stupid, but i hate there belifs - they are better than everyone, their response to 11/9 says to me they are thinking "we are better than everyone, so y did they attack us, couldnt they attack some 1 else that deserves it more, say the poor ppl, everyone with money must be a good person" , and for my own resons). bush is pathetic, he speeches make me lol.
