    Hexus buy Bit tech.....

    http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/...id-ross/033681

Online tech publisher David Ross has acquired consumer site Bit-Tech.Net.

The website will be managed and published by David Ross and his team with immediate effect. The commercial team will be led by publishing veteran John Pudney.

“The opportunity to expand upon the already strong Bit-Tech brand by working with another proven publisher in the tech space is incredibly exciting” he said. “We’re looking forward to publishing an even better site for our users and our partners.”

"This represents another milestone in the groups’ ambitious plans for expansion as the tech and enthusiast market continues to grow," added David Ross in a statement.

Ross also founded specialist site HEXUS.net 15 years ago and built the business to become the 'go-to website for tech', growing a forum with over 270,000 members and an editorial team producing in-depth reviews.

Maybe they can update some of their tests now.

Their HandBrake testing for one,was contradicted by the HandBrake threads I started on Hexus.

    PS:

I wonder if they will start hiring more people??

I really hope Hexus and Bit-tech forums are not merged though!!

People like Rollo are still on Bit-tech forums for example!!

I don't have a problem with respectful shills as long as they are transparently marked and provide strong enough disclaimers with their posts so it's obvious to the rest of us what practise is going on. Hexus' marking of editorial content that is sponsored shows they have some commitment to such transparency.

    Re: Hexus buy Bit tech.....

I was wondering how long this would take to pop up over here.

Do not worry - both will stay the same, the reality is we want to put the magic back in bit-tech.

We won't be merging the forums - far from it. Both are great brands and we want to operate them independently.

Pretty bloody thrilled that bit is no longer in the hands of Dennis. I thought it was going to wither and die if they mistreated it any longer.

I might start reading their reviews now and I hope they are more like Hexus now with regards to their interaction with their readers(which is great).

I do still visit Bit-tech forums though,as there is a strong modding community over there and some of the custom cases people made were awesome!

Bit-Tech is still a big brand in the market, as is HEXUS & there is some crossover in content. How will this be delineated one wonders...

The interaction is good and the way they handle the forums is excellent so those are two major reasons to give bit-tech a read now that we know those parts of the site will be well maintained. Hexus does have its downsides though, I find the articles to be badly edited; I suspect they are made without a read over by another member of staff because the errors I see every day are really simple typo's that someone else reading an article would quickly and easily catch and rectify. I used to point them out back when it was a few errors a week but now I see them on a daily basis and have given up pointing them out.

I like making sure details are taken care of; a week or more before a deadline I only fix minor details like grammar and spelling in my reports. It might not get me too many extra marks but it certainly prevents me losing marks though and Hexus has been losing my interest steadily over the last few years thanks to the increase in these minor details being over looked. The forums are amazing which is what keeps me on the website but without the forums I'd be reading my technology news elsewhere and I worry that similar cutting of corners will occur at bit-tech.

It will be interesting to see what effect this change of ownership has. I hope that it has a positive effect on both websites and the owner learns from the new site and uses that knowledge to address issues in the old and vice versa.
