I've just opened a new bar of soap......

.. don't you just LOVE a new bar of soap?

It's like a new notepad.... or a new toothbrush.....

this particular bar of soap is a glycerine one... you know? the see through ones.. all sharp edged and with harsh corners.

It's lovely... I WISH they stayed like that

Seriously, though, I do prefer 'proper' soap to most of this over-priced liquid muck. And glycerine soap, absent all the moisturisers, perfumes, etc, would be my choice .... if I knew where to get it round here. We used to, but it vanished from shops a couple of years ago.

Sadly my skin disagrees - proper soap is just about OK, but it's been mostly replaced in shops by cheap bars which I seem to have some kind of reaction too, where as liquid soap doesn't have any ill effect.

Pears soap is a great soap, I used to use Imperial Leather but found it dried my skin out, then moved to pears but now trying out Dove

I'm totally unfussed about liquid or solid, as long as it comes from Lush

Bah! Saracen beat me to it.

I do like those see-through bars, but I was never a fan of Imperial Leather - because nobody EVER removed that flippin' sticker, and the bar ended up with a big lump in the middle. Even as a child that sent me into OCD hell, so I used to peel them off; wherever I saw them.

In the 70's my Nan had a magnetic soap holder.. it stuck out of the tiled wall over the sink.. and she had to remove the soap label and screw a steel button into each bar so it would magntise to the holder. Then when it was all used up take the metal thing out and use it in the next one.

That's where I learned of my OCD........ she once, in a hurry, screwed it THROUGH the paper label and I was "in the bathroom" long enough to get people banging on the door

no I think you're right.. but it DID leave a mammoth unshapely lump of unusable soap......

lets be fair... Imperial Leather deserve a medal for the glue on it!!!!

Getting something to stick to soap .. that is soaked daily and phyically rubbed at numerous times per day,....

how did No Nails go so wrong..?

    Personal preference, though.

A friend of mine is a ... I probably shouldn't name the company, but it won't take much to guess .... chemist, designing and developing soaps and washing powders. Let's just say I stick to products that are as simple and basic as I can get. Note, not necessarily cheap, but simple and basic. One reason is, if you have a reaction, there's a very good chance it's to one of the ingredients, not the actual soap.
