Ive just setup a Paypal account and...

Ive just setp a Paypal account over the weekend. Just a bog standard personal account.

Ive also just sold a Thermalright heatsink on a forum so the first deposit into my account was made just a hour or 2 ago. Now, i thought personal accounts dont have any transfer fee if they are being transfered to, but im still being charged about 60-70p (total was £18). Also, it doesnt let me accept the payment until i upgrade my account to the premier business one - i think its something about how the other guy (who paid me) adds funds to his paypal account, but im not really liking the fact that all transfers with the business account have asociated fees.

    What should I do?

    Thanks

You have to upgrade to the premier account to withdraw the money.
Standard account only lets you pay for things.
It won't cost you anything though so don't worry about it.
I believe the way it works is that paypal only takes a cut from the payment receiver:
for example you pay someone £50 on paypal and he receives £48, therefore only a premium account can have fees associated with it.

Thanks for all the replies guys. Paypal doesnt look as good as i first thought tbh. I thought it was free to use for personal use, but how silly was I.

Im actually quite interested in 5cupa's statement:

The only way you can keep it 'personal' is to only accept funds that are transferred from a PayPal account - i.e. the other person needs to upload funds to their PayPal account and then transfer it, rather than pay on eBay with their credit/debit card.

Of course, eBay (who own PayPal) go out of their way to make people pay by PayPal with their credit card - it makes them lots of money in transaction fees...

I use paypal but I would rather use Nochex as they dont charge for paying and uploading, and they are more reliable. (wait for the flack )
