Have a nice day, Nick, mate.
Its a perfect sentiment. It's a game. But its a good game. When two people constantly don't see "eye to eye" on almost anything, the interest shown is great. I tend to agree more with Rave than with Nicho on stuff, but I tend to agree with Vaul on even more.

I'd ask one thing please...from both Vaul, who is my fellow mod, and of Nicho, wh isn't.

Dont use real names. Vaul is Vaul is Vaul. Nicho is Nicho is Nicho.

Right....my go: (I always lose out on these debates cos my mind....er...wanders..TiG and friends will testify)

oh cack...lost the thread plot again.

I've edited this post instead of replying to it. Sorry Rave, can you repost the jist of what you said? I've made a bit of a cock-up, sorry mate.

Please don't accuse me of a Facist plot to silence you or anything. I've edited your post instead of my own.

Parts of yours are still in my post below this one.

    Sorry.

(Most of what he said is in my post, the first on the next page, read the quotes I am replying to)

middle class lefties dont hate britain they just think it has gone to s**t socially but dont want the government to fix it because thats not very liberal, so its an internal frustration that often leads to confusion when expressing opinion. As for ID cards, great for security and social control they will go a long way to help this country, but i hate them and dont want them.

i am one of these middle class lefties, its a nightmare to be honest. I am a lefty at home and a centre righty at work and and at war. As i said confused.

Yeah of course, fair enough. I don't think Nicho minds though, I get called Stewart by him, and Shogun and a few others, its Ok with me. I suppose I should make sure that its Ok with others before doing so though.

You agree with me more than either rave or Nicho, Zakky boy? Awww. I never knew you were one of us.

Where as a right-minded person might make the joke about, say, Saddam Hussein (crimes including mass murder, torture, etc), the humor of the standard anti-British Guardian reader is to always attack our values and our actions - hence its, I'm sure, hilarious in their circles to attack Blair and Blunkett, who, of course, are guilty of exactly the same level of crime.
I agree with Vaul on this totally. It's a joke. What he points out (I believe) is that of the two choices for the target of the butt of the joke, Nicho's wife chooses Blair and Blunk and not Saddam or other dictators.

    # In some circles it is seen as amusing. Witty and humorous.
    # And in others it is a non joke. It's not offensive. It's simply not funny.

Bit like enjoying a comedy show or not.

Weirdly, it seems to ME like a waste of valuable brain power to think these things up in the first place. Its so clearly not gonna occur. But I think up other things that I find funny, that would never occur. Nicho would probably not laugh at all, whereas Vaul might find it hard to breathe with appoplexy, and he could help me spell that too.

    Each unto his own.

I know it looks like I'm replying to a post that hasn't been made, but I've mistakenly edited a post of Rave's instead of posting this. So, it does scan if you read the quotes that I am replying to

I won't be thanking the Lord since I'm an atheist, but apart from that that's exactly what I'll be thinking. Since we're playing the quote game, how about:

"They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary
security, deserve neither liberty or security" Ben Franklin.
Well Rave (and Ben), I too am an Atheist, but it’s a figure of speech. I sing God Save the Queen, but I don't believe in God. I say Jesus, many times, in many different ways, all are simply figures of speech.

    Anyway, on with your 'points'...

'Limp-wristed'? Equating liberalism with homosexuality now are you? Of course, you're not prejudiced though eh?.
Eh? I used the term in a Liberal do-nothing and everything will be Ok kind of way. There is no connection to homosexuality.

Yeah, muggers and terrorists get away all the time because the police can't identify them, don't they?
Fact remains, the system is more secure than the current one. Sneer away, I think we have heard your best argument now anyway, and as it was a series of random examples that prove nothing, you yourself have proved nothing.

Well I can actually- if people are committing crimes, then why the hell aren't they being arrested and charged for them rather than merely being issued with Asbos? Either what they're doing is illegal, in which case arrest them, or it isn't, in which case leave them alone. An Asbo can therefore only be either an overreaction or an underreaction. I can't see a situation in which they're appropriate. In most cases, I suspect they're given to people who should actually be being arrested and given community service/drug rehabilitation orders etc.
Well, because being a noisy neighbor or dumping litter, whilst a crime, isn't the sort of thing you are going to send the Flying Squad around for, that's why. ASBOs deal with repeat offenders, committing what seem petty crimes, but which have the ability to make people's lives a misery.

I'm not against criminals being caught and punished, far from it. At the end of the day though, constantly reacting the problem rather than trying to prevent it occurring in the first place is a mug's game. Asbos do absolutely nothing to address the underlying causes of anti-social behaviour.
A yob is a yob. There is not always a cause of yobbish behaviour - if there were, we'd could ban Burberry and be done with it. Racist chanting at football grounds, smashing windows and the like, this is yobbish behaviour and there is no great cause - its just a few people who think they can get away with it, until they are come down hard on. With, oh I don't know, say... an ASBO?

    Think on...
