Been allowed to drink at home since i was 13/14 in the , glass of wine occaisionally or few cans at the family bbq way, when I hit 16 i moved on to pubs and clubs and have been i.d'd more times in the last 12 months than I was back in the day.

I can't call underage drinking bad as it'd be beyond hypocritical but the attitude that some kids do it with is completely wrong, they go out solely to get paraletic and mess about, I used to go out for a few bevvies with some mates, yeah you might leave a bit tipsy or get drunk on your birthday but you didn't go out with that sole objective. Besides as i've got older i've discovered that I much prefer being stoned to being stupidly drunk.

My family allowed me to drink at mealtimes/family get togethers etc since I was 10/11. I definitely think its better that way. I've never felt the need to go out and get completely smashed. Just doesn't appeal to me. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen from time to time though .

Someone would go and get the drinks, we would sit there for a few hours, having a laugh and a joke, and once relaxed, talking about things openly we never thought possible in front of each other. Not only did this make a few of us closer, it made some of us realize how fast life was coming at us (yr 10 over to 11).
After about 6 months, the novelty wore off. No one had ever been drunk, perhaps tipsy at most. No one caused any trouble (really the wrong type of people for that), and no one ever fell out because of it. In the end, this social gathering was the basis of lifelong, close friendships with other people. I know 2 of the people that became closer at this place are now hoping to get married somtime late next year
Also, several peoples moms knew what was happening, and they let us use their back garden’s and spare rooms, provided we behaved. I look back on these days and realize they were some of the best ive ever had. You have no idea what id do to be able to go back to them again.

You'll have to excuse my previous comment, got a lovely chest infection and am on new sleep meds :>

My friends and I used to do a similar thing to what Agent said. Though instead of a quiet patch of land, we had a dinner table, couple of bottles of vino, and a meal that one of us had prepared. Usually was a weekly occurrance from 14 up until people broke off and went to 6th form. Then everyone just went out, binged and clubbed.. not quite as much of a social endeavour, in my opinion.

Now that most of my friends are either moved away for jobs/uni, or grown away from the group, it's just me and my best mate who meet up for a couple of films and a good chat. Neither of us drink anymore, yet there are no social boundaries that need to be broken.

    It's nice.

Seems like we all have sensible heads on this forum

I just had a HUGE flashback to my 16th birthday when I went to one of the local "rougher" public houses with a few close friends for a few games of pool, darts and banter ( where it says banter - insert explict graphical rude descriptions of fanasties with friends sisters much like what is in King Arthur and what the rest of them do to Ray "wheres your tool" Winston") While in this pub I heard a very familar voice so I turned round to see 3 teachers from my school coming in for a few swifties after a PTA meeting.

You can probably imagine 7 16 year olds faces all going white with the fear at this point and the trousers going brown. What did they do? Nothing much really - 1 of them knew it was my birthday and bought me a pint or 2 but I did get the beasting of a lifetime round the cross country track in my PE lesson on Monday.

We should in many aspects take the europeans view. How much trouble could be avoided if say 16 year olds were allowed to be with their gardians and have a few drinks. Would this clean the streets up of cider swigging chavs and chavettes? Nobody knows but unless they try they can hypothesise all they want to about reason for this that and the other.

I'm not really a "drinker", I don't drink that much alcohol, sure I've done it but I don't do it much. And of course there's a lot kids in my age that are drinking, but I don't think this "underage-drinking" has anything to do with: alcopops, as said before it happend already before they existed and it's expensive. It has to do with the young youths and theirs environment, nowdays it's quite easy to get a hold of some alcohol + it's such a pressure between young guys/girls that they must drink and bring drinks on to partys. My brother is 13 years old and he started drinking awhile ago, I don't think my parents are really aware of it..but his freinds aren't getting accepted in the "cool" groups at school if they doesn't drink! I think it's crazy.. and they're not drinking because they'er among a lot of friends who just wants to relax and drink a bit. They're doing it because they want to get drunk, which I think is a stupid and wrong reason. And also..you can have a lot of fun without alcohol!
