Fiona, I mean "narmy" in the pronounciation sense only. Like it rhymes with army.

Yeah, but they sound the same depending on your dialect.
The way I say it, the word "Are" sounds like "ahh". So it's all the same to me

tsu·na·mi [ tsoo-nä'me ] There's a little accent over the 'e' so that bit is pronounced may (kinda) but there is a definite 't' sound. Thing is, up until recently we would have all said tidal wave, but tsunami has become more fashionable since discovery channel did programmes about them.
What gets me is the way news readers suddenly started calling Uranus uh'rah-nus. Remeber that?
U·ra·nus [ yoor'a-nus, yoo-ra'nus, ]
Definite 'y' sound there. Personally I think they sounded much sillier with the PC version than they ever would have with the actual pronunciation.
That's my 2p worth.

"You want loyalty? ......get a dog!"
Nande ya nen, do you not realise that it is a Japanese word?????
津波 つなみ thats つ tsu な na み mi. su is す
You do get the impression that small but pertinent point hasn't quite sunk in, along with the importance of pronunciation within Japanese dialect.
daymonkey is right, its a silent t, maybe there just a bit bent and are saying
toon-army? maybe not

Not that I really want to get drawn into an argument over word pronounciation, I feel compelled to...
It's a silent T in tsunami. How does it matter what Japanese characters mean in English. We speak English do we not? The Japs say it how they say it, we say it how we say it.
It's a silent T

I suppose it depends where you come from in the UK on how it is said
Said like this up near Newcastle :
Soo - Nar - Me
how about NOT worrying about how its pronounced and in fact do what you can to help the poor buggers that have lost their homes and families because of a F*-off big wave.
is there any point keeping this utterly idiotic thread open?

I don't see the harm in it? I think your post is needlessly subjugating.

Exactly, well said (I know I put in myself but as I stated, depends on where you are from in th UK on how its said)Originally Posted by shiato storm
