Kalniel has it down to a T. Exactly how I felt about the film. The 3D was good but was blurry in fast moving scene's. Was it just me or was there a lot of pointless running by characters?

I find myself on the same page as CAT-THE-FIFTH and kalniel. I watched it in MX4D to see what it's like, and while I can't say that I am sold on MX4D, I found the movie enjoyable. Yes it is reminiscent of "A New Hope" in places, and yes we weren't given that much background of the new characters or changes of the new world order. But I am not sure if it would've been more enjoyable if they spent most of the movie setting up the background. Blown away? Not quite. Entertained and looking forward to the next instalment? Yes. I am also glad I stayed away from any reviews / social media that might have hyped my expectations so high no movie would have been able to deliver it.
I really enjoyed it. I place it as a remake of the originals for a newer audience, but with more than enough differences for it to hold it's own and keep some surprising moments.
You can feel the internal struggle within Kylo Ren, in fact..i just spaced out for a few minutes reliving some of the scenes. He played the character very well I have to say.

oops my bad will repost in other thread

Yoda discovers that his real parents are Princess Leia and Chewbacca
So.. saw it again last night
I don't normally do repeat screenings, last one I did was I think LOTR. This time on a smaller screen and in 2D and was mostly because someone else wanted to see it.
I was right - 2D is the superior way to see the movie IMHO. The smaller screen wasn't a problem - you loose a touch of the wow factor but it still works great - if anything it felt more 'Star Wars' to me, but that could be because it more matched the experience of the original films.
It completely stands up to a second viewing - partly because the story isn't anything all that special, but it's still just as good fun. The humour comes out even more second time around, because, well, one element of humour is anticipation
I did unfortunately seem to end up sitting next to Jabba personified - I've never seen someone noisily stuff a constant stream of popcorn into their mouth non-stop though a film before. I was fascinated - how were they breathing?

I've seen the movie twice now. First time I went with my dad who ran into one of his friends and had a conversation along the lines of,
"Do you remember the last time we were here?"
"Here?"
"Last time we saw Star Wars?"
"I don't remember."
"Yes. We saw the original. All of us were there, you, me, (long list of names), but it was back at the old Queen's cinema."
"That was back in the 70's..."
And so and so forth with the reminiscing.
Anyway, Dad had a blast and although I enjoyed it I wasn't too impressed. I was underwhelmed by how Han Solo and some of the other originals were portrayed. I supposed I was expecting a bit more gravitas - writing or character development with a bit more weight to it. It felt a bit shallow. Then the plot too felt like they'd take too easy a route. On the plus side, I enjoyed seeing the various new characters (and some old ones) come together at the end with a sort of foretaste of the new things to come and that looked great.
The second time I saw it the wife wanted to see it, and some friends, so I tagged along. Enjoyed it more the second time. I think free of guess work and expectations I was able to enjoy it more in its own right. I came away from the second somehow feeling like it had more of it's own identity and more expectant of what was to come. Felt freer to watch looking for other missed details or think about things going on because I didn't have to catch everything like the first time around.
All in all, while not drooling over the series (I've enjoyed the Star Wars world but it's not my favourite fantasy creation), I'll look forward to the next one when it comes along.

Took the kids to see it (in 2D) between xmas and new year, after making them sit through episodes IV, V and VI at home.
Very enjoyable. Not the masterpiece some are claiming, but lots of fun. I'd happily go to see it again, although I'll probably just wait for it on BluRay.
One thought I have been pondering is whether or not a certain character's favourite weapon (in the movie) might hint at future double-bladed lightsaber?

I went to see this on New Years Day. I usually end up watching films on planes, but I thought this deserved the big screen experience. It's been a few years since I last went to the cinema (I think it the first rebooted Star Trek film I last saw at a cinema). I am pretty certain that one of the facts about the Star Wars movies was there is always music playing, certainly not the case this time, and instead of silence, you get to hear people rumaging in food wrappers and eating; I can see the appreciation of a home cinema system! That and I needed the toilet for most of the film; I forgot about the 40 minutes of pre-amble before it starts.
Anyway, the movie was OK. I am not a massive fan (more a Star Trek fan personally), but I appreciated most of it, I think. Some of the humour seemed to almost stoop to an American sit-com level a couple of times I thought.
Not a big star wars fan myself but was dragged by a mate to go see it. I enjoyed it, I feel this way about it - Disney are likely going to make another 5 of these at least knowing them. This is almost like them starting a completely different saga, with all new Characters and stories they'll reveal throughout. The old characters are only really there to tie in the new ones without annoying the fans too much
