Intresting way to put a common topic into perspective vaul.

i used to put alot of effort into updating my computer but i quickly realised that i hactually had no use for the that amount of power and it jsut burns waaaaaaaay too much money. I have a case with a window and a blue light. i have had these for ages and if the light was to break..would i replace it....probably not. Despite this i do like the fact that my computer responds promptly to my commands. And i have nothing against those that feel the need to have the latest technology, if you can afford it...by all means, do so.

i dont have my specs in my sig......why? erm, i see no need for it...i prefer my pictaah that i made in fotochop.
Dont get me wrong, if i wanted to have it there for whatever reason then believe i would, that whole thing about 'your bragging' doesnt intimidate me in the slightest.

Vaul i applaud your awareness and i hope that this change brings the rewards your aiming for.

That about sums it up really. I see no point to bandy my computer specs about like some penis extension...

Angry One Not Very Happy Tiggerai

I used to have my spec in my sig, and i was damn proud of it too (i still am).
the only reason it's not there anymore is that the boards got reset and i never could be bothered to update it.
I used to overclock too, but i don't have enough money for that at the moment. I owned a 1800+ JIUHB DLT3C purely for the sole purpose of eventually getting a hobby rig.

If someone would like to ask me what is in my computer, then i could tell them, down to the very last detail. I could also tell them the whole history of it, component by component. There is nothing that has been put in my case for the last 5 years that hasn't been put there by me.

I think that there is a minority of girlys out there that do enjoy their computers, but please do not forget that we are human too. Try talking to us, instead of making the wild generalisations that we know nothing.

And Just for the record, I am planning on going 64 in the summer once i have graduated and got myself a job.

EDITED coz i'm not so hacked off anymore

lol I never have my specs in my Signature as theres no point as I'd be ammending them every couple of weeks as theres always something thats been tested and checked.

Instead of having all the sigs with specs - would it not be better for a link to a page with the specs on in the sig? that way the people that want to see them can click it and it will appear and the people who don't want to see specs in the sig don't.

    Nice car, by the way.
i was wondering who would be first

Thing is, at least my car is useful for getting from a - b and im proud of it, how useful is your £600 P4-EE compared to your £200 P4..... its so useful that you have to resort to using synthetic benchmarks to actually work out whether its any faster. Hrrrmmm. Whats there to be proud about, your showiung off that you actually enjpoy being ripped off and paying 300% more for a product thats 10% faster. I wouldnt boast about that tbh

That £400 would buy me alot of petrol, and petrol is well useful

    Apology accepted.

It is something i do come across though, and being treated differently in this industry is an area that i am used to.

Although it is funny messing with PCworld staffs heads!

    My specs aren't there as:
    1) I don't feel the need to, and
    2) I don't know them

Which is why I just browse for random stuff on the web (as Alex said).
Or I put in things I've heard, such as:

I used to put specs in my sig. In my case it was a kind of inverse snobbery- I like having a fast computer, and I like paying next to nothing for it. The joy of overclocking for me is to force a cheap part to run as well or better than something expensive. If I ever get round to it, my computer will soon be updated with an Athlon XP that does 2.5GHz on air, which I bought off these forums for £20. Right now I'm using a 50% OCed, cache modified Duron, and a softmodded 9500, both of which cost a fraction of the amount the full blown parts would have. In the past, I have been obsessed with buying stuff just because it was cheap, not because I needed it; the fact that I have 100+ console games which I'm never completed (or even played, in some cases) and around 30 cameras is testament to that. In the case of my computer, I have so many parts that didn't OC to expectations that I probably could have got a computer as fast as mine is now just by buying the more expensive parts in the first place; I'd have got it sooner and I wouldn't have so many old parts cluttering up my house. Still, I'm learning now finally.

I'm always after more CPU speed because I run Find-A-Drug 24/7 and I sometime re-encode my more precious DVDs to back them up; both those programs make use of as much CPU power as you can throw at them. Graphics card wise I'm forced to conclude that I really don't need any more power than I have now; 99% of the time I only play Tribes 2 which runs spot on with my 9700 GPU underclocked to 150MHz. As tempted as I am to grab something like a 6600GT, I know that right now I have no need for one. I couldn't go back to only console gaming though, because playing online is just too involving; having come late to the party I'm making up for lost time.

My spec is in my sig because I'm trying to compensate with the fact that i have an extremly small, and fast diminshing peni...seriously, when joining a 'PC' forum I put in my spec for time saving when ive cocked up my pc or when those with a similar setup want to share or ask for knowledge on their hardware....that or I'm just a pawn in a cover up for a massive web of lies, leading straight to the top of the political ladder...u decide
