    Hi, anyone do kart racing?

hello people, i am from HK, and now live in the UK, i've been interested in kart racing for a very long time, but in HK u rare get a chance to drive, let alone to learn how to race a kart. and since i am in the UK now, i would love to learn how to race a kart, and hopefully getting a proper kart racing lisence and race in real competitions. does anyone know what i should do? and how much it cost?

thank you so much for help me out.

    ps.
just for a laugh, i am 23 now, and i know that people in here start kart racing @ 10 or even younger. would be lovely to see me racing with a bunch of kids won't it

I think a lot of people would like to do karting, but its so bloody expensive.

Most only ever do small indoor track ones.

For a start find your nearest local indoor kart track and get down there!

These places are mainly just for fun unless you enter serious competitions but you really will have bags of laughs. No license required and you just pay for the laps you do. After a while and your feeling maybe a bit more able try and contact your local kart club.

Depending on where you are in relation to an outdoor circuit you may have problems finding one / be willing to travel a bit but they are definately about. Find out a little about them and they will definately be able to get you sorted in regards to licenses.

Cost wise? I haven't really done a lot of karting myself but my dad was seriously into it for a while in Saudi where he was pretty involved. He's into racing in a big way and so the money aspect was taken as a given by him but it can be expensive.
A decent kart won't be picked up for under a grand or two anyway second hand then you have to concider replacing race tyres. One time my dad went all out and ordered custom Dunlop tyres for his kart that lasted one race - costs around £500 for the set and worth every penny according to him

For more info may I suggest Hexus.automotive?

My son races kart endurance and used to race both 4 stroke and 2 stroke sprints. It's expensive. A kart will set you back around £2000. Add to that running costs and entry fees to races. It cost the team £2500 to race at Le Mans last year for the 24 hour. But for a sprint race day it will ost in the region of £100 for entry and any other costs for bits that you bend or break not to mention £100+ for a new set of tyres for each meeting.

If you still want to do it the you need to take your ARCS test, which is pretty easy, and get an MSA license. Have a look at http://www.karting.co.uk/ for links and a rundown on what is going on.

If you decide that it is too rich for your blood then get together with some friends and go to a circuit and do an arrive and drive event. No license needed and buckets of fun. My son and I often do these events for a laugh.
