Must admit when I was younger I read very little, but from about the age of 14 to the present day I go on reading binges, I will go a few weeks without reading much then I will cram as many books as I can in every spare moment I have. Problem is I always end up with 3 - 4 books on the go at any one time.

As a kid, I remember I was really into Swallows and Amazons... I read the whole series, Pidgeon Post, The Picts and the Matyrs, Swallowdale. A good bit of escapism for a kid, or so you'd think. I also watched the film repeatedly. Now that I'm older, I can actually go sailing myself (parents rarely let me) and I am hoping to do a Day Skippers course this year. It's amazing how much books have affected my development, not just regarding the activities I indulge in but my whole attitude to life. It makes me wonder when I see people debating the effects of violent computer games on kids.
