So, I've been with my currently employer for a little over 5 years, working in IT in a 1st and 2nd Line capacity, so stuff like password resets, account unlocks, adding printers, PC builds, laptop builds etc.. pretty boring stuff really.
For the past 3 years I've been pulling any extra work outside of my normal job role I could, including stuff such as setting up new depots, aiding in the installation of our equipment in new acquisitions, working weekends to install new networks, 16 hour days to be in at 8am the next day and generally just throwing myself at whatever I could to prove myself.
As of two weeks ago, I received the news that I am being promoted to the role of Infrastructure Engineer and I couldn't be happier, I get away from the boring nature of the "easy calls" and have a chance to get my teeth into something new and more difficult.
I know compared to some of you lot it's a walk in the park, but after being messed around at my last place, I'm happy to be getting somewhere.
Bring on the learning!
