Do you EDC? What do you EDC?

Just a topic of conversation for anyone who fancies a break from the current stuff, really...

EDC, in this context meaning Every Day Carry, supposedly refers to the things you always have with you, in your pockets, on your person, whenever you go out your front door and into the big wide world...

For most people this means simply a wallet, watch and keys, with the occasional added extra such as a pocket knife, Swiss Army Knife or a multi-tool, notebook and pen, and so on. Mobile phones join the kitlist as a matter of course and, for those in places with concealed carry permits, this often includes a sidearm and is the practice from which the term EDC was taken to include all your 'pocket junk', basically.
Naturally it started to include the gadget freaks, the tacticool crowd and the sorts who carry weird stuff 'just in case'.

Lately though, I've noticed a bit of a trend toward websites specifically showing off one's EDC, mostly all carrying the same stuff but with a heavy fashion-conscious influence. Titanium, rich brown leather, black 'stealthed' metals and 'tactical' styled gear abound, with colour-matching schemes for the adventurous.

The one common theme is that all these people put a lot of consideration into the everyday items that they carry every day.

So yeah - Do you EDC? If so, what do you EDC?

Wallet, house and bike key, Swiss Army Champ or a basic Leatherman Skeletool, phone. Haven't replaced my last watch since it died last year. Need to replace it eventually.

That's it. Oh, and the knife/multi-tool goes on a belt, and I never go without a belt, ever, unless I'm in jogger bottoms or pyjamas (or going for a swim). Feels weird not to wear one.

    Nice and light.

Re: Do you EDC? What do you EDC?

couple of sheets kitchen roll, pad of paper with 'stuff to buy/do' written on it - incase I forget why I went outside in the first place, bottle of drink, snack bar, wallet.
I still use a backpack, feels weird walking around without it, plus handy for putting shopping in.

at least I took the hammer out of it, that I once carried around for a few months , accidentally left it in after a call out to a broken down mobility scooter.

in winter there's a pair of gloves and fuzzy hat in my bag too.

ditto, on my actual person. It's something of a mantra as I'm leaving the house.

All my bikes have some kind of small frame bag with a spare inner tube, tyre levers, a small pump, and a cycle multitool. My road bike also has a couple of spare powerlinks, and a specific multitool that includes a chain breaker. I do have rescue on my insurance policy, but it's usually a lot faster to fix minor breakdowns yourself....

it was a puncture on wheel, incase the wheel bearings were gunked up/rusted on , needed to whack wheel off, then swap with spare wheel that was in backpack.

or just general 'persuasion' on stuck bits, like overheated motor brake, tiller adjuster loosening.

Re: Do you EDC? What do you EDC?

When I am not snowboarding: phone, keys, money, card holder, money (no wallet). Sometime earphones and passport (when travelling in places where it is necessary to have it on you). For a couple of years I would also always have my hiking backpack with camera tripod etc. And yes, everyday.

When snowboarding: phone, keys, different card holder (that shows lift pass, and I can slip some money too), screwdriver (foldable with a cap so it doesn't tearing up my pockets), rice balls (I am in Japan) and/or sandwich and/or daifuku (Japanese confection), mouth guard, action cam battery, sometime map of the mountain.

    Nothing fashionable to see here.

Re: Do you EDC? What do you EDC?

EDC? Not really, as what I carry is .... context-sensitive.

AEDC (Almost EDC) - wallet, keys, watch. No phone.

Keys usually include housekey and, if going by car, carkeys.

Wallet? Ususlly, but not always, as it depends on where I'm going and why. If I know I won't need it, I don't take it.

Watch? Normally, but it's far from unknown for me to either forget or not bother. Mych of the time, what I'm doing is not time-sensitive and if it isn't, I probably don't bother with a watch.

Phone? Occassionally carry. If I remember. And if I remembered to charge it in the last few weeks. But crucially, if and only if there's a specific reason to need it. And if I do take it, about 99% of the time it's turned off, powered up to use, then off again. The only times I take it powered up is if I know, in advance, someone (with my number) will be calling, and that usually means Mrs Saracen.

Re: Do you EDC? What do you EDC?

Interesting... so most people do indeed tend to carry pretty much the same stuff... and no-one carries a torch/flashlight?

I'm more of a gadget geek, so in addition to the above I tend to have a little pocket organiser with a variety of useful tools and things. Sort of like an urban survival kit, as it were, with the cable ties and gaffer tape.

Not quite to the level of EDC geekery I've seen recently, though, where it's all about fitting as much 'just in case' stuff in as possible... I'm never sure if those guys get off on always having super glue and a Tic Tac ready to hand, or if it's about how well they can pack a kitchen sink into an Altoids tin...
