If multibillionaire Uncle Bill seriously thinks that casual PC users are going to stump up hundreds of pounds for a suite of office appliactions then theres your answer to why so much stuff is downloaded. I'm all for try before buying if the price is sensible but come on £400+ for Office Suite...I don't think so

My philosophy (and it my be a bit simplistic and will not go down well) is if I would not buy or could not afford the original then whats MS lost...NOTHING

Note that there is no admission of any guilt there just an observation

Sits back and waits for the flack

yeh, bills worth millions of billions

hes not like us, 400 quid for office would be cheap to him, and to us 400 quid is a months wages, him its a couple of seconds

he thinks its cheap and hasnt noticed that people struggle to pay for his software because to him it appears good value for money where the general public cant afford it ontop of everything else we have to pay for

thats why ppl pirate his software, then he fines us 10000 quid, just makes people more determined to kill him..

i think software piracy is good because *official* software is far to over priced.

fo, for me thats 3 months work.

i think there are worse issues though, piracy is just the start. corporate america is going to far (tcpa.. market domination.. charging what the feck they want... ). i htink it is very wrong and theres no wauy im paying for example £30 for a piece of software ill only use once (eg partition magic) or £100 for an os which is rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbishe and buggy which really is just a bug fix for the original which i payed about £100 for.

oh and the advertising for all there crap really gets on my tits.

also i dont care if hey lose a bit of money from me, they still earning more than me and probly work a lot less hard. wish i had a nuke to fire at m$ headquaters and the surrounding buildings within the 1mile square which are all corrupted and turned evil by m$s evils plan to rule the world

Software piracy exists because for a lot of people, the costs of software is too high. If people have a choice between spending their own money to buy legitimate software and buying a copy of the same things at a small fraction of the price - they'll choose the latter.

I wanted to do a side job where i built p.c.'s and sold them in my dads shop and advertised in the local gazette.

Sounded good at the time, i added how much the p.c. would cost to make and realised it was at least £200 cheaper than the shops sell them for so thought add £100 for yourself and you will still be selling it cheaper than the main retailers.

Then i realised i had to add £169 for XP home edition.. now it isnt worth it, well that was the end of a budding new career path.

I've never paid for Windows, never will.
    MP3s, I now download everything off peer-peer
Films - I still buy as I'm proud of my small but perfectly formed DVD collection
Games - mixture really, some ripped, some original

Just a friendly advice - I'd keep such comments private, if I were you... Did you know that there're "pirate police" roaming around internet forums and IRC channels to nail people who pirate software or use pirated software?

Due to the amount of warez forums/irc channels etc I don't think he's in great danger, even if they did catch him he'd be let off with a caution (my friend was caught for installing an illegal copy of windows on his computer and the police just told him to remove it within 5 days).

demos are usually the good bits of the game though, they rarely give a full picture, also if you spend £30 on a game which looked good in a demo would you be pleased if u could finish it in 2 hours?

Cheers for the advice m8, but I've never known any individuals to be targeted - they go after the big fish

The police will be wasting their time going after ppl like us. They need to find the warez distributors.

Well he made a comp for his friend (as you do) and put a dodgy copy of windows on it to save money, when this friend was having problems he decided to take it to PC world to fix it

PC World checked his windows key against a list of illegal keys and phoned the police, they went to his friend and he pleeded stupidity and told the police bout my mate (the one who made him the computer). Then he was told to remove both copies of windows off both machines within 5 days. From what I've been told the police didn't really care and didn't even check up to see if he had removed windows.
