not nice, but its been happening for years.
i could understand people wearing fur when there wasn't any other choice, eg medieval time etc...
but nowadays theres so many other fabrics which do the job just as well.
HEXUS|iMc
I won't close it, cos the debate is good. But NOT the links
I don't want anyone seeing this sort of stuff here on Hexus.
If you are interested in the dispicable, inhmane and cruel barbarism that is involved....go find it somewhere else.
I am NOT offended by people debating the Fur trade however. So long as it is clean, professional debate with NO LINKS TO (real or otherwise) film, pictures or sites
Sorry....but let me ASSURE you all, if I see those damn links again I am gonna string someone up and make my own film.
Clear?
good.
Sorry to be so brutal but its a family forum. Those films would make a war torn soldier feel ropey. Imagine your kid sister clicking on them

I think fur for fashion sake is not defendable, however, for practical use, say Siberian winters, I think there maybe a reasonable case for it. Perhaps farming fur to clothe cold Ruskies/Eskimoes/Alaskans is big business, I don't know.
I personally don't see the difference between farming animals for food and farming them for clothing. (oh that's gone and dunnit - see below before you lynch me)
AS LONG AS THEY ARE TREATED WELL DURING THEIR LIVES AND KILLED HUMANELY, I.E QUICKLY WITH THE LEAST AMOUNT OF SUFFERING.
and there are valid reasons for using natural products.
Man made fibres require lots of chemicals to produce them, polyester, nylon, acrylics etc, which also need massive factories that consume energy along with all the associated industries. Fur in it's broadest sense could be considered "environmentally friendly"
There is a symbiotic relationship between man and the animals that he husbands. Would pigs, cows and sheep be threatened species if we didn't farm them?
I also believe that you should use as much of the animal in question too. I read somewhere that chicken feathers, which would normally be ground up for animal feed (eugh!) are being used to produce pcb's!

Now that's gotta be worth a gold star to get a pc angle in on this discussion!
Wool is probably the best cos uwe don't have to kill the sheep to get the product! Oooh, snakes too cos they shed their skin.
Now I know I may have widened the debate a bit but that's my view and as such I won't post again. I know this topic can be very close to some peoples hearts and I want to avoid a flame war.

Im with iranu on the food/clothing
The thing is fur is often from places like china which more often than not is from dogs.by for
which are killed by *Zak Edit...I said NO NASTY STUFF and I meant it *
I am with iranu on this, and btw m8 you have relavent points don't be worried about posting them.
As long as the animals aren't put through unneccassery suffering then I don't see a problem with fur, similarly I don't see a problem with eating meat.
i saw an interesting thing on tv recently about someone who went to live for some period of time with some native inuit types (i know its terrible bad of me to not know but I jumped into the program about halfway). it was incredible how resourceful these people are. yes killing an animal is a grisley thing to behold but when its a matter of life or death then you can understand why the do it. theses people haven't got tescos or the internet, or even newspapers as far as I can tell, so to them hunting and killing is a way of life. they also use the entire animal - furs are used for coats, meat is eaten, bones into combs/glue and other ridgid things, tendons used as high tensile string/stitching...its not a wasteful process but a necessity to remain alive, and they respect the world and take only what they need and use it all. we, as in many of us reading now, are horrendously wasteful its a disgrace!
i am against the use of fur for people such as ms Lopez as featured, they're rich enough to chose alternative ways of laying up their bodies they pay so much for people to idolise - its a wonder why they bother with clothes?
