I love to play piano though I am not really good at it but it makes me feel good whenever I play.
The versatility of synths is amazing and whilst there probably isn't that connection playing one that you have with other instruments, there's a lot of songs where i find the sound to be quite moving and emotive. I guess you could say they're related to the piano so that would be my second choice.
Will do. I'm a long time fan of Giltrap in my younger days, going back to Visionary and Perilous Journey albums, but haven't looked at newer stuff for years. They're among the albums I want to digitise from my LP collection. Saw him many moons ago supporting another of my favourite old-time bands, Renaissance. That tour even gets a Wikipedia mention, and I woz there. Jeez it makes me feel old.

Bought my amp from Giltrap's shop. Have a signed copy of Troubador as a result. Great chap. Just wish I'd been a bit older and less shy so I could have spoken to him properly. My mum on the other hand had a good old natter. For any guitarists there is a Total Guitar special collection song Tab book that is well worth picking up if you want to learn a suite of his stuff. It's written by GG himself and an extension of the articles he used to write for them in the 1990s.
omg you are so lucky to have that! Please tell me it gets used and is not just gathering dust!! Edit just googled it and I'm thinking of something else with one board only. Btw I hope you're not the person using it like this. Granted musical taste is a personal thing but we might have to intervene out of kindness. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxIBzP0Hy18
Synths enabled so much musical innovation. A whole chunk of late 70s early 80s even through to 90s pop relied on the native sounds from synths. What nowadays people have to try and emulate via digital techniques was then just the analogue chips in those synths and people playing with what sounds they could get out of it. Whether it's Van Halens Jump or Why Can't This Be Love, or things like Vangelis theme for Chariots of Fire, Gary Numann, Depeche Mode, Erasur, Eurythmics, the Terminator theme, etc etc. Like any classic effect once it's no longer produced musicians spend the proceeding years doing their nut trying to replicate it. Just go on any muso forum. They are littered with threads of "How do I get that sound of.... ? " Back then it would be just buy XXX but now it's a whole world of pain. Things come close, but you'll never get a Prophet sound out of a digital synth.
Some good summary here: https://www.musictech.net/guides/ess...-synth-sounds/
Oh I have trashed my youtube. I'm now getting suggestions of lots of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9CA4YXXUu3U Not ideal. Seems there is a big Germano-centric love of cheesy organ. It's like blundering into the outtakes of radio 3. The horror. The horror.
(also the size of that thing, you'd need to surrender a bedroom just to fit it in)

Nope. Firefox 79.0 on a W10 MS Surface Pro. Tried it again. Same result.

i love the fiddle, as played by Coors Light
in all seriousness tho, any instrument in the right hands, there are are guitar riffs out there that can change my mood, piano intros (Robert Miles - Children, Beverly Craven -Promise me) and solos that send shivers, drumbeats that get me going.
I cant say i have a favourite instrument but there are definitely instruments that fit a scene and they could be considered my favourite for that moment.
Hand bells as it was the only written form of music I could read as it was all in numbers when I was a child, and this is despite me being a chorister as well at the time. When I was singing I had to memorize it all as couldn't read the music/hymn sheets.
Can't believe I did that. Normally, my .... ummm ..... errr..... thingamy .... is so good.
What's the word?
Oh yeah .... memory.
