    Selling pc on ebay

I'm planning on selling a pc on ebay, but wasn't sure what the rules/law is on software(windows).

The pc is running an official - legit copy of Windows, installd from a retail package I bought. However I do not want to include the license etc. with the pc (I want to keep it for another pc).

The Question is: is it ok to sell the pc with Windows on it and say something like, "the pc is currently running Windows but no license will be supplied. it is the responsibility of the buyer to obtain their own licensed copy" OR should I re-format it and sell it without o/s?

I would go for the reformat personally.

That way none of your personal information is at risk.

iirc, if you sell a PC with a copy of windows on it, you HAVE to supply the license too, as you're giving the software away with the PC.

Safest bet is to wipe the drive, not install anything and leave it to the buyer to stick on an OS of their own choice.

As Nick says, its best to sell blank, or offer the buyer to add the amount for the O/S to the final price and you will install it for them.

Yup. You won't get £50 extra for your PC on ebay just because it has windows on it. Definately wipe and keep the copy of windows for yourself.
Good man for not screwing over microsoft and staying the right side of the law!

yep, iirc you have to supply the license with the software

ebay are particularly hot on this sort of thing too, so don't think "ah, nobody will be any the wiser" cos they probably will !!
if it ain't broke...fix it till it is
