    Corona Madness...

So, had to explain to my other half's sister last night how they've managed to create a vaccine for The Rona' in a year yet there are lots of other things that we've been working on for ages but with no vaccines in sight..

Made me think (yeah I know its early right) what are the best, or worst, Corona stories or conspiracy theories you guys have heard of.
Me me's will also be accepted, for the lolz..

Can you give an example of the other things? Do they work in a similar way to coronavirus with a targetable spike protein that we know the sequence and structure for?

    Re: Corona Madness...

I was paraphrasing when she said other things we don't have vaccines for, cancers and stuff like that is was what she was referring too.

She's in a bit of an odd place emotionally and has moved back home so is having her head filled by the constant rantings of a pair of Daily Mail readers..

Anyways, stick to the topic, this was meant to be a lol thread...

    Re: Corona Madness...

That Bill Gates invented coronavirus so he could put mind control micro bots into the vaccine for it so he could brain control the world. Obviously Donald Trump is in there of course fighting the good fight etc... Funniest and scariest part is people actually believing this.

    Re: Corona Madness...

Yeah the Bill Gates ones are amusing, he's not giving money away because he has more than he needs and wants to leave a decent legacy beyond just being the "Microsoft guy", he's giving the money away to "buy" power and influence..

I really wonder what he is going to do with Brenda, 63 from Cardiff on his first day in control lol..

Or the 5g links, I've seen some, what I thought, were intelligent people be taken in by this crap, people burning down 5g masts and so on, the best ones are those "girls" on the internet that are going on about how 5g is going to start tracking you and stealing your data, while posting all their "stuff" on Facebook/Insta/TicTok, pretty sure 5g's got nothing to do with that love...

The irony, the stupidity, its just funny..

The COVID-19 vaccine that you have had has been shown to reduce the chance of you suffering from COVID-19 disease. Each vaccine has been tested in more than 20,000 people in several different countries and shown to be safe.
It takes a few weeks for your body to build up protection from the vaccine. Like all medicines, no vaccine is completely effective, so you should continue to take recommended precautions to avoid infection. Some people may still get COVID-19 despite having a vaccination, but this should be less severe.

well I think the best thing about about the 5g madness is that all the towers burnt down were 4g not 5g and then people complained that their mobile signal was now bad and that the mobile phone companies had "flipped a switch" to punish the area's for the destruction of the towers . . .

    Re: Corona Madness...

Given that the transmission process for the flu is similar/identical to that of SARS-COV-2, it would be unsurprising if levels of seasonal influenza have fallen; it would be far more surprising if case load remained similar to previous years.
Reducing aerosol dispersion, physical distancing, and bolstering surface cleaning (including hands) doesn't just inhibit the ability to pick up SARS-COV-2, it affects the whole spectrum.

I do agree with your other point in that vaccination is not an end-point to eradication, (I've personally not come across anyone who has voiced that opinion as yet).
It is however an effective means to reduce transmission through the population down to manageable levels (in the same way that this is done for seasonal influenza, measles etc) and reduce risk for the most vulnerable.

The reason for no major flu numbers is because we've only just entered flu season, https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/index.htm#S6 stop saying CDC and actually read the information the CDC put out.
Last time I checked America isn't the only country on Earth and seasons vary, therefore people are dying of the flu all year round. Talk about putting your foot in it.

    Re: Corona Madness...

Are you too young to remember small pox, polio and TB? Rubella would probably have been eradicated by now too, were it not for the rise of the anti-vaxxers.

The flu did not disappear from the UK this year. Flu deaths were running slightly below average at the beginning of the year due to the mild Winter. As Covid hit us the numbers increased counter to the 5 year trend, almost certainly due to misdiagnosed Covid and the shortage of test kits.

A lot more people would die of flu without the annual vaccine programme/s. I will take your 650K number on trust and point out that Covid has claimed 1.7M and rising.

Yes I am pro-vaccine but against forcing medical treatment on anyone.

1.7M and rising is a hard sell. If, in 2019, you went to every hospital and care home, and everywhere else that people go when they are dying and tested people, daily, for the common cold, you'd create a deadly pandemic. That's literally what we've done in 2020.

The US is currently 'the worst country in the world', with 330K 'Covid deaths'. But the US was expected to have 2.9M people die from all causes, and has actually had 3M. Suddenly 2/3rds of Covid deaths were just.... deaths. That 330K is now only 100K. But it gets worse. If you consider the CDC figures for additional deaths from heart disease, cancer, etc, caused by scaring people away from seeking medical treatment, the record year for overdoses, and suicide, the tens of thousands of deaths caused by the lockdowns, rather than the virus itself, the reality that some of us have been trying so hard to explain becomes impossible to ignore. Covid kills the dying. It's stolen hours. sometimes days of peoples lives. But it's not the 'doomsday pandemic' it was believed to be in March. Those 'Nightingale Hospitals' stayed empty. Your bill is 17,000GBP per household, so far.

    Re: Corona Madness...

The vaccine isn't going to be mandatory. The government will make it available to the aged and infirm, and enough will take it that the 'death rate from Covid' will plummet. That will be enough that the 'pandemic will be over'. There will be no need for everyone to get the vaccine. No 'herd immunity', except be exposure, which will come eventually. But with the vaccine, people aren't 'dying from it', and the need for constant testing of the dying will end. There ends the pandemic, with a whimper.

Far more interesting is the development of the mRNA vaccine, a leap in medical science that has huge implications for cancer therapies in the future.
