The most enjoyable things in life?

Hi there

This post is aimed more at the older more experienced crowd (maybe approaching or reached retirement) honestly as I myself am already too old and I am looking for advice on the course of life.

If you could kindly let me know the most enjoyable things you have experienced in life so far and factor in the value if the experience was not cheap? Doesn't matter what it is : could be a recipe, could be a holiday destination, could be a whisky dunno.

For me the best things in life are:

Radio
Hi-Fi (low end audiofile)
Internet and PC Hardware progression
Radio Control Ground (cars) these days
Live concerts
Festivals with good acts
Driving
Summer days

I think there is a reason that (pre covid at least) cruises are popular for the retired. Plenty of company and a chance to see some new places.

OTOH, I did rather enjoy doing a flying lesson. Can't afford it as a hobby, but introduction lessons are sort of "first hit is free" pricing

I used to play so much sport when younger. Can remember playing Promotion league rugby on a Saturday then as a goalkeeper hockey on a sunday. Summer playing cricket. Then age caught up, so went over to Motorbikes which I still have GSX1100WP but can't even get the leg over anymore. Now it's building PC's, photoshopping, Call of Duty multiplayer (calming the competitive streak in me.) and going to Cornwall three times a year with the Mrs.

For me it's the simple things:

Feeling grass beneath my bare feet.
Cooking and eating anything over an open fire.
Stroking a purring cat (not a euphemism)
With absolutely anything you built/designed yourself the moment where you step back to look at it and think "I made that."

Finding yourself in a situation for which you just happen to be carrying the right tool or kit, such as a Swiss Army knife or a first aid kit.

Finding a song or piece of music so amazing you have to hear it over and over, because it's better than sex... and then learning to play it yourself.

Finding food done to perfection for your tastes.. and then learning to do it that way yourself.

A nice long ride or drive, alone at night, where there's so little light pollution that you can see the Milky Way even through your own headlight(s).

Finding that a certain brand of clothing is not only every bit as good as they advertise, and worth the (not insignificant, but not insane) price... but that it also fits perfectly!!!

Our family. I have three kids, Sally has 4 (was 6, we lost one a couple of years ago and one died at 5 days).

Between us 15 grandchildren and (literally in the last five minutes) have just been told of a new arrival due January.

Everything else is secondary, but I would also include the NHS as both of us have had problems recently (me car crash 5 yrs ago, Sally cancer 2 years ago and kidney stone surgery last year), sorted very quickly, and one granddaughter had major heart surgery at a few days old to correct TGA.

Below that lot, yeah, music is terribly important to me, we both steward at 2 folk festivals each year, looking forward to doing that again after a year off.

Then below that, I keep my brian alive by repairing hifi, turntables and speakers mostly, but with the odd amp. Been retired since 2004, but *officially* retired just a couple of weeks ago, got my pension now

Met up with a childhood friend after 25+ years without contact. We went seperate ways as he got in with the wrong crowd, but he's doing well now . We're both local still, went for a bike ride like we did when we were 13. Talked as if we'd seen each other last week.
