If they do cancel ARC it'll be a real shame - bad for competition and consumers, and potentially themselves. Yes it's a short-medium term hit, but that should have been a given when you're developing a highly complicated new product line.

There's a clear opening in the market for "good enough" wallet friendly GPUs in the £150-£300 price bracket, with decent driver updates they could've made this their base market, build a reputation and developed the line from there. 2080 - 3060 Ti / 6600XT - 6700 performance levels would have been acceptable if they could've hit a $299 price point and released by year end....AMD and Nvidia aren't going to give us any sub-$300 entry level gaming GPUs in this price bracket for a good 6 months.

I can buy an RX 6700 at Overclockers for £330 right now, and prices are coming down.

I get the impression that Intel already made a ton of these Alchemist chips, so I'm sure they will end up on the market somehow. Sounds like Battlemage could well happen as well albeit ignoring the high end, it's just the Celestial and later parts getting pulled.

If the problem is drivers, then these might make good Linux cards where we ignore the official tripe already

I suspect they saw the arse falling out of the GPU market and decided it wasn't worth the effort anymore...

It will be very interesting to see what the actual benchmarks end up looking like.

If the drivers worked, they would be useful cards despite people calling them low end. Even the A380 is nearly the speed of an RX570 which is still the standard video card in this house. The fastest we have here is a 3060ti, so all but one PC here could theoretically be upgraded with an A770.

But if the drivers just don't work, then it's a downgrade.

Not out of the woods yet according to Tweak Town:

You would think that Intel could at least develop drivers that worked. It's not as though they are completely new to that aspect.

lol, well it would be very Intel for them to pay EVGA to start making Intel video cards. Or most likely some sort of lucrative advertising deal back hander.

This could just be definition squabbling though. Alchemist and Battlemage are not cancelled, so Arc is not cancelled. Yet.

    Hmmm. Possible, I guess.

After years of translating politicianese into normal English, my thought on that is that I'd want to (if I cared enough to bother) see exactly what Andrew Han said. The precise wording. I mean, politicians (and lawyers, with whom there is a large degree of overlap) are experts at appearimg to say one thing, but when you forensically disect their precise words they can at least be interpreted as meaning something different, and sometimes are phrased carefully enough that a casual listen only sounds like they said A but a careful listen reveals they said B. It's so common that it can only be deliberate.

So, did Andrew Han say they're not making/manufacturing GPU boards at all, or carefully imply that while really meaning their won't be EVGA brand boards, but leaving open sub-contract manufacturing boards for someone else, like Intel? Neither situation would surprise me. But if he's genuinely ditching products that are 78% of gross revenue, and what keeps a good proportion of employees busy, then either he plans to pay them to sit and do Soduko puzzles all day, which isn't viable long-term, or he's planning on them doing something else.

Gamer's Nexus did give some exact wording, but he speaks Mandarin and I don't so I would have to defer to his expertise

Still, it sounds like the honest intention is that graphics cards are gone at EVGA, people re-allocated to other business that actually makes a profit.

My comment above was really just Andrew Han made that announcement pretty much out of the blue, so the likes of Intel won't have had a chance to talk to him and everyone has a price.

I've done some jobs in the past that I wouldn't want to go back to, but never say never. Would I do the last job I had again? Yeah, but it would cost them three times what they would be willing to pay me to cover the stress.

Re: RUMOURS : Intel Arc (and Optane) cancelled.

    Here's a snippet I hadn't heard before...

According to Charlie, a major part of the Intel graphics driver development (the shader compiler) was being done in Russia. That would explain some of the horrific artefacts in the video output if that team was disrupted
