Re: Now THAT is one hell of an electric car!

I have a 'fast' BMW, with a twin-Turbo V8 and a sub 5 second 0-60 time. It's nice. But 5 seconds isn't fast in comparison to the electric vehicles available today. Even the lowliest Model 3 can get to 60 in 5 seconds. What the BMW has convinced me is that I don't want an Electric car. Not because it's good, but because I agree that it's boring. Effortless acceleration to 100+ without even noticing how fast you're going is fine if all you care about is transportation. But for a driving experience, it's the worst vehicle I own. I have motorcycles, obviously, but my other car is a Land Rover Defender, and it's honestly far more enjoyable of a driving experience. It is, of course, a terrible vehicle. And slow.

My next car will be something similar, I hope.

I have been pulled over, usually a couple of times a year. But in the US there are no speed cameras, or the same ANPR enforcement. Traffic stops are for pretext, and the cops want to find people with warrants, or impaired drivers, or the uninsured, etc. Obviously exceptions to every rule, but I've only been given (fair) warnings.

Agreed, though no comment from me on the boatiness of the EVs, having not tried them.

One caveat - the UK (and Euro, obviously) M3's of that era were very different propositions from the US-spec models, and TeePee is in the US so if he'd tried one over there (as I did) .... well, they were leagues apart. I bought one in the UK but got a huge shock with the US one, which was much less powerful and had suspension as hard as a rock. it was very uncomfortable. I got about a mile from the dealership on the US test drive before turning round, going straight back the dealership and aborting the test drive. It was, in my personal opinion, truly horrible. I was seriously contemplating relocating my base to the US at that point, and was serious about the M3 ... until i tried it. Afterwards, I wouldn't have wanted to drive it if someone gave me one (which admittedly wasn't very likely). But actually buy one? For actual real money? Oh, hell, no.
