I was taken to church by my parents until I was proberly about 10, when I decided NOT to. I am an athiest now - even though I have been christened and went to church when I was young. This is just the opposite of what you're doing, except, your children may decide to BECOME religious.

I honestly believe that there are a HUGE number of people out there (like me) that have been christened and went to church, but are now athiests. IMO, it's fine to teach your children whatever you believe, because otherwise religions may just die out. That could be argued that's a good thing, but I have the view that people should believe whatever they want to so long as it doesn't harm others.

But then people could go on that religion can be used to harm others.

    Its not just religion.
Sometimes there is some football transfer arguement or whatever that seems to take up the entire sports sections of news. There are other sports people.

My other post was more a comment on the way news is supplied to us rather than having a go at the pope.

Yeah - I was careful not to go too deep into that part. Religions HAVE been known to be the cause of many wars etc, and as Nick said, refusing to condone the use of condoms CAN and IS causing harm.

I'm sure religions cause a lot of good too, but I'm afraid I see large-scale bad (wars etc), and small scale good (helping communties etc). I'm not saying that religion is wholey bad and that anyone religious is bad, but there are some very extremest religious people that seem to have taken religion the wrong way.

If people followed the bible (or similar) exactly, then I reckon we'd have had less than half of the wars we've had now.

There was a thread about this ages ago, and I remember nichomach basically saying the same point in that one also. I guess you could call me half religious - I believe in its values, but not its beliefs. I try to follow most of its values, but I don't believe in God, Jesus or most of anything else in the bible. After saying that, I think any "normal" human being follows the bibles values (no stealing etc), therefore I'm athiest .
