Well, at least part of it is that the F word is so versatile; consider that it can be used as the object, subject and verb in a single sentence, as well as (for instance) a preceding exclamation:
"****! The ****ing ****er's ****ing ****ed!"
My personal favourite, though, is probably "adroit".

Anyway one of the best bits ever on that old C4 probram 'Faking It' was when they taught that Oxford student who was learning to be a doorman just how important the f-word is to Londoners. Made me proud of my city that did.

I think its because, at the end of the day, swearing is big and it is clever.Yeah just went out for a ciggy and was considering that one. I really don't know if the pleasure in swearing is derived from the social unacceptability, or the pleasure of using such basic Saxon-derived language

"fanny" seems to be another one (it's a name, not just another word for a lady's anatomy!"
"custard" is a common one in our group cos we're not allowed to say C*nt out loud lol (dont ask)
"forking" is another one lol (cheers for reminding me monkeyville!)
