That's complete ageism- if the kid argued a point well without you knowing his age, why should being ten years younger than you expected him to be have any effect on how seriously he should be taken?

(Unless he's basing his tax-related argument on personal experience )

Bad example. I don't think a 14 year old would necessarily be out of place talk about politics, but to be honest quite a few are...Saying that, there are plenty of people over 18 who don't know where to start with election debates either

I do agree with your general line of thinking though, some recent threads (I say recent, but I haven't been here to see any less recent ones ) have been marred by some immature posts, one which particularly springs to mind is a certain 15 year old boasting about his ability to buy a whole £19-worth of alcohol in one go...

    Here comes the fire....

Why don't you climb off your high horse? Take a stroll down here with the rest of us, it might not be pretty, but you'll get used to it.
To err is human. To really foul things up ... you need a computer.

I did say not trying to put the younger age group down, and I'm certainly not on a high horse at all.

As Meiapaul I posted a bad example.

I don't see why querying the average / mass age of the forum to see where the majority age bracket lies, it would stregnthen or weaken may thoughts on that fact I believe it is the 14-15 style age group that make the weaker posts, I don't see how that puts me on a high horse.

apologies if thats how it came across.

I'm 21, but I am still capable of putting together an utterly sensless post if I really put my mind to it. It's a very useful skill, don't neglect it for the sake of "maturity", whatever the hell that is.

Aaanyhoo, I think in this environment for the most part age is completely irrelevant. It's nice for people to converse on a level playing field without age becoming an issue.

As for immature posts.......dont look at me.......

its wasn't so much as an imature post or two that started me thinking on this, it was more a case of a really good thread going on which could be a joke thread, a silly thread or a technical discussion then someone would chip in with "microscum sux because bill gates has all da muney" or "linux is fur l00sers because dey are all gay", or even try to help in a problem but with no understand if what they are saying but just chiriping in two get their posts up or mention something they are doing that has no relevance, but they want to just say what they are doing for no reason.
