Music that your parents/over 40s listen to...

    Hey people!

Right my mum has instructed me to come up with a playlist for her to listen to whilst driving. As i'm 20 (4 weeks to 21ness!) and my mother is 50, there's a 30 year gap in our music tastes! Along with the fact she wouldnt listen to most of my music if she was paid to lol

So what i'm looking for is some songs that are catchy, probably a bit poppy but not boy bands/britney/christina type songs, with a bit of a beat, but not dance, that she might like to listen to whilst driving. As she describes it, songs that she would rather be late for work for and hear the whole song than get out the car lol.

so, there's the challenge! See what you lot can come up with!

so far i've got the following on the list:

    1. Dandy Warhols - Bohemian like you
    2. Shania Twain - man, i feel like a woman
    3. Dire straits - Romeo & Juliet
    4. Dire Straits - Solid Rock
    5. Rolling Stones - Start me up
    6. Rolling Stones - Brown Sugar
    7. Blur - Song 2
    8. Tha Clash - Should I stay or should i go

Right, i'll prolly need about 30ish. As you can see she has quite a varied taste...

    Good luck!

My mum doesn't really listen to music, my dad listens to cher and pan pipes whereas i'm into a variety of music

Need some Coral on there, Dreaming Of You is a safe choice

Also see if you can get any Fiery Furnaces, they have a great female vocalist. Try get South Is Only A Home.

My mum likes Coldplay, The Beatles, Keane, G4 (untill i hid the cd), R.E.M, The Manic street preachers, and a few others. Mostly becuase i force her to listen to new music.

My dad likes Led Zeplin and Gorillaz, but hes not really a music person, more of a boring person. lol.

Most of the bands you guys mention are not the sort of stuff women normally listen to. I'd chuck in stuff like Kate Bush (Hounds of Love for example ), Rolling Stones, Bowie's poppier stuff and early Blondie if I were you. I'm 34 so have the age (dis)advantage of vaguely remembering this stuff first time round
