Why don't you post yours and we'll tell you how to improve it...

Everyone one has a different CV depending on their career/job/skills/qual's..etcetc...there would be no point in posting mine for example, as it is tailored to my career.

lol, i live just round the corner from you 5lab. (might wanna blur that a little) nicely laid out cv too btw, i like the divider lines, i use them too.

my old a level art teacher who was an ex designer always said never underline the titles, just use bold or different size fonts or it looks like a kid has designed the layout.

    ps.ever ride cwmcarn 5lab?

5lab - you are able to work as an individual and as part of a team? Thats amazing!

So much tripe on the average, modern CV.

My CV just has a picture of a nice dog on it, with 'I know all the numbers up to 8!' written on it, in orange crayon.

No offence 5lab, but "setting up a network for my mates" is not going to impress anyone and is best left out. It's smacks of desperation for something to say. But it's not the worst i have seen by a long way.

It's good to have a generic CV, but you should not send them out to all employers. CV's should be modifed and targeted to the specific type of business. I.e, the manger at a games developer does not what to hear you are good at fixing car, even if you did it for years.

Try and keep it to a max of 2 A4 pages. And don't put much about what you get upto at the weekend, most employers don't care and know it's BS anyway. 1-2 line will do. My manager says some of the best professional CV's have been on 1 page! (must have been small text!). And these are professionally qualified people. But she says she just can't be arsed when she has 100's to look at.

to be honest, that cv got me 2 interview at the 2 people i sent it to, and a job with one of them

all the personal details are out of date tbh, and i dont really care if people know where i live. what are they going to do? write to me?

tbh if someone wants to know your name/address they can just look you up on the bloody yellow pages.

I beg to differ. He didn't write it like that. He indicated that he takes an interest in computers as a hobby and has gained a lot of experience by building and upgrading machines and networks for himself and others That's a good thing IMHO.

It depends on what he's applying for - If it was a basic IT position , i'd me more intrested to see that he has good communication skills and can follow procedures without fiddling around with the system.
