    Soccer

Why is it that over here more and more people tend to refer to football as soccer. I have to remind them that they are not in the States and football is a game where you use your feet most of the time instead of carrying a ball and throwing it at players. Why else are the associations named FIFA, UEFA etc. The F stands for Football, I don't see FIFA changing to FISA, or UEFA to UESA just because the US demands we call it soccer. Why do we have to conform? I still draw the line at pronouncing Nik-e ... You don't say lik-e do you?

Anyways, my 2 pence worth for the evening.

I call it football, all my mates do, everyone I know does. Only a right nob would call it soccer, or as you say an American. For real fans, it will always be football.

For whats it's worth, we started calling it Soccer in the UK first. It's taken from 'association football'. But yes, it is gay.

It's got to be football. Mind you, I've heard people in my workplace say that "we play Rugby football here so it [Football] should be called Soccer". I'll leave you to figure out where I work

I once had a PE teacher who was pro rugby and wrote Socker on my (and everyone else in the year) report card. I returned it with the correct word Football written in red pen and the phrase "must try harder".....

It was worth the 2 weeks of detention

If you associate with many americans you tend to have to pander to them as they dont know other countries that well. (not meant to be an insult but my experience)
So you end up calling petrol, gas, football, soccer etc.

Also the person who owns nike (or until very recently) is called mr nike, sounding like Mike. Dont know why it became nikey or whatever though or when. As far as i remember from the TV programme it started out like his original name.
