    YAY! I just hope it was just the screen + HDD then...! Problem is, it really did take a fall. And too many sites I've checked recently show that they just replace the unit instead of repairing.

    Believe me when I say I hate the idea of lining Intel's pockets...

    if you dont want a dell you dont have to accept one..

    see if you can hang onto the base of it - laptops are surprisingly easy to fix yourself if you have parts, or it could make a sweet hdtv with a tv-output

    I will try. Already have a Media Center PC that works fantastically and when thats not serving up media, runs Oracle, J2EE apps, apache, and other stuff I use to develop with.

    TBH I could live with a Dell (only just) but I would prefer to see my Athlon64 again.

    They checked the laptop, following is damaged:

    DVDRW, Widescreen TFT, Battery, Hard disk, Chassis. One drop caused all that?

    Just turned around and wham its on the concrete... ?! If it was a cliff i'd expect that much damage, but a meter to the ground? Delicate things.
