    Virgin Trains advert.

Am I the only one who thinks it's ace? The one with the scenes from old movies superimposed onto the posh new Virgin Trains?

Yeah....but it's Virgin Trains. It's like having a great advert for Nestle's African baby milk division.

Being a film studies me thinks its ace but then Richard Branson is the person i cant stand the most with those awful train service so i hate it on principal. i have complained every time ive been on avirgin train - have two drawers full of letters from virgin. nearly always get money back though.

haha. lol. they are the easiest company in the world to get your money back from. just make up some rubbish and shove the magic sentance "i wish to complain compensation under the passengers charter" on the end

I travel on virgin trains twice a month, and only had problems with them 3 times in the last 2 years, which isnt bad considering the 1st was due to work being done on the train line and there being a coach replacement service (if i wanted to travel on a coach i would have booked to travel on a coach!) the second was nothing to do with virgin in that someone had chucked themself in front of the train at the stop before where i was getting on, stopping all trains from getting through the station for the next hour or so! and the final one was due to a late connecting virgin train at carlisle.

By far the worst train service provider i've ever experienced is Northern rail! their trains are clean(ish), but they have 1 toilet on a 4 carriage train when the journey is 3 hours, they run a 1 carriage train at the busiest time on a friday between leeds and sheffield (a v.popular route for commuters), and they dont seem to give a toss if they're running late or if u're going to miss your connection, they wont TELL you they're running late till it's the time u're meant to have arrived and u arent there yet!

no, virgin have improved over the past while, even if their train designing hasnt (wtf are you meant to put your luggage?!?!) but northern still beats them hands down!

    By far the worst

you northerners havent had the delights of connex in the south east. only been on northern couple of times but were fine... im beggining to sound kinda weird but the reason i get so many blimmin trains was first travelling between parents who hated each other so much they decided to live 450 miles apart and then becoming homeless while not at uni staying with people all over the country.

I only use northern when i'm in/going to/coming home from leeds. I've been on connex and various other southern trains cos my ex bf used to live in croydon (that lovely hole!), but again, never had so many problems as i've had with northern! The only problems i did have was christmas time 2002 when it was really wet and there were a lot of landslides and rail floods, but again, not the train service provider's fault.

Virgin trains are so bad, I brought a 306 dturbo to do the same journey. From door to door using a train would take over 6hrs, nevermind prebooking in advanced and going when it suits them.

By car with 2 of us, £20 of diesel both ways, door to door, just over 3hrs offpeak, nevermind the ability to carry hamsters and the rest of it.

And yes the insurance costs a bit, but I do the trip regularly and end up saving loads of time which is more important to me, nevermind the freedom.

The adverts pretty good... makes me want to watch the Railway Children again...

Virgin Trains... only ever had a problem with them once... that was right after the Hatfield Rail Crash... it was something like 6pm and we were at Stoke On Trent (having just spent a day at Alton Towers) and the 4pm departure from Glasgow still hadnt left Glasgow yet...and we were booked onto the 6:30pm...
Was pretty good tho... we got on the 3pm (which arrived soon after 6:15pm) and cos so many people were waiting for it... we managed to get first class seats cos thats the only place that had available seats... result if i do say so myself... (PS apologies for the essay)

Going back to the original point, I love that advert Really highlites how romantic and exciting a train journey used to be - true, its a shame its for virgin but the actual advert itself is fantastic! My favourite bit is Daphne & Josephene on the platform

Yeah!! I think its an ace advert!

....But as someone who works for Virgin Trains, and with the marketing team involved in the adverts creation... maybe I am slightly biased! But the fact that Howard has mentioned it must mean that it has been a success

Glad a few people defended VT too, cos I really don't think our trains are that bad at all... compared to other rail companies. A lot of the issues are purely due to the rail network, rather than VT themselves.
The new ad campaign should prove that we are constantly working on making things better

Just in case you missed it... see it here

I actually think that Virgin are okay, I used them for three years to get to uni and back in north Wales. Never had a problem and the ticket prices were really cheap if you book 2 weeks in advance.
