Just had one of those emails asking for your bank details.

Who do I have to report it to?

I've never even heard of Bank of the West.

Dear Bank of the West customer,

We recently reviewed your account, and suspect that your Bank of the West account account may have been accessed by an unauthorized third party. Protecting the security of your account and of the Bank of the West network is our primary concern. Therefore, as a preventative measure, we have temporarily limited access to sensitive account features.

To restore your account access , please take the following steps to ensure that your account has not been compromised:

    1. Login to your Bank of the West account. In case you are not enrolled yet for Internet Banking, you will have to use your Social Security Number as both your Personal ID and Password and fill in the required information, including your name and account number.

    2. Review your recent account history for any unauthorized withdrawals or deposits, and check your account profile to make sure no changes have been made. If any unauthorized activity has taken place on your account, report to Bank of the West immediately.

To get started, please click the link below:

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate your assistance in helping us maintain the integrity of the entire Bank of the West system. Thank your for your prompt attention to this matter.

    Sincerely,
    Bank of the West Team.

Please do not reply to this email. Mails sent to this address cannot be answered. Log in to your Bank of the West account and choose the "Help" link in the header of any page.

How do I report a suspected phishing email?
When you report suspicious emails that appear to be from Bank of the West, but are in fact, sent by imposters, we work aggressively with law enforcement agencies to investigate them.
If you suspect that you've received a fraudulent Bank of the West email, please forward it to us via email at:
    abuse@bankofthewest.com

Note: Don't change or retype the subject line - this inhibits our ability to properly investigate it. After forwarding the email, you should delete it from your inbox.

I don't think there's any point reporting it to anyone, although you could forward the web address of the fake bank site the email links to to the people who run the Lad Vampire so they can try and take it out.

Edit: O.K., report it like Paul says then. Still reckon the Vampire will be more use.

It's the digital version of tearing all that junkmail into little bits and posting it back to them in the supplied pre-paid envelope... and yes, I do that!

    ahhhh phishing spam.

I've had a few of these all starting with the phase " Hello, we are happy to be contacting you via this medium "

What medium ?? DO I have Derek Acorah in my room talking to dead spirits for me. I didn't think so as well.

I must really delete them later instead of setting up a gmail account just to wind the sender up

Yeah, but in that case the MPS would be a better idea:

    http://www.mpsonline.org.uk/mpsr/

Seems to work well, I used to get lots of junkmail addressed to someone who lived at my house ages ago, since signing up her name (+ my address) it's stopped.

Edit: I found this page very interesting reading, although I have the same questions as 'AlphaCentauri' at the bottom of the page:

and me...... It fills me with a sense of a job well done

I also put a house brick in so it costs more on the "pre paid" envelope system
