Your Mobile phone - do you care about how it works or whats inside it? or do you care it can make calls?

I care mine makes calls, has good battery life and signal.

I love my blackberry for example - it works all the time on the road, I don't care whats inside it or how it works - thats 2 (if not more!) technologies working together.

Is the thread name a question or an answer? Difficult to discuss...most of us want It Just Works rather than Step1: Insert CD 14 seconds after attaching to USB port but 14 seconds before attaching to FireWire Port. Step2: etc...phones are good, iMacs are arguably in the same bracket, iPods are...are you getting at what makes the Next Big Thing next, big, and thingy?

Network hubs: plug them in to the wall, plug stuff in. Stuff can talk to each other...if they can't, its the stuff's fault, not the hub.

Glasses even. Very precisely ground lenses...put them on your face, and wow, theres like..edges and stuff. Glasses (spectacles if you must) are a solution to the whole Vision Problem us tech monkeys have...that or 240pt Verdana...
    Well Hello!

    know the problem with solutions?

they're never quite what you want.

Your old rant about tivo versus windows xp media center? you're right that all media center machines are just plain silly and unintuitive - but a solution like a tivo doesn't do what i want, not fully. same applies for everything - is there a single portable music player i'd recommend today? no. apple's music solution might suit some people, but not me.

solutions presume that we're all the same, and as a result never exactly match what we want. some people are happy with a secon-best solution. personally, i'd prefer to combine first-rate technolgies to provide something that fits me.
