Nah Nursery's before Kindergarten. At least it was in my day. Yeah they hopefully can get sent back...
Nursery schools/playgroups won't offer all day care whereas a pre-school will offer the parent all day spaces if required, and a pre-school is more of an educational setting also a nursery may take babies wheras a pre-school will take children from 2 and 8 months, though many offer it from 2 and 6 upto rising fivesOriginally Posted by Mike Fishcake

I think it's harsh on the kids to leave them there all day from like 2 1/2 or whatever age these places take them in.
surely the guy who processed the order can't have been that much of a goon when she ordered tht many...? I stand corrected.

Why's that bad? The kids can learn, develop language skills and social skills. Recently it was announced that most kids who join school at 5 can not speak properly or count. If they can begin learning at an earlier age, all the better. I think I've benefited from the fact that I joined a pre-school at 2 and a half.
Very harsh, but parents need to work and settings need to be seen giving flexible affordable childcare as well as providing educationOriginally Posted by Matt1eD
Most kids adapt to it easily, for some kids different settings are all they have known, it's harder on the ones who's always been with grandma and suddenly old enough to come to pre-school, good excuse for a quiet story and cuddle if they get tired though
We have to assess and observe children's development for when they go to "big school" the cirriculum guide to the foundation stage states that children have to count upto 10, write their name legibly, know basic colours recognise certain letters, shapes, use scissors safely, and a load of other stuff when they reach receptionOriginally Posted by Wyoming
Well I was a geek in pre-school, I could count beyond 100 and everyone else was still in double digits

*still can't count beyond 100, hence the fact i teach t pre-school level, it's the only level my brain can cope with!
Roffle. TTIUWP tbh!

Hmm Wyoming may have been able to count beyond 100, but I think he takes geek to a new level... You see, one day in senior school a few weeks back (we're in the same group), he brought in a kiddie's toy lightsaber, and proceded to run around the house base pretending he was a jedi. He promptly fell over a chair.
What's funny, is that he is deadly serious. He also draws his own renditions of a lightsaber, and tells me he will build his own fake one when hes older... i.e. when he's in college
Just thought the boy genius should remember that.

New Sig on the Way...
Apologies, that was a misunderstanding on my part; i thought "Kindergarten" was an actual American nursery school.Originally Posted by shelley bda

I'd also like to back up Shelley; a lot of people think that looking after kids at a day nursery is just changing nappies or playing with kids, but the reality is far different. So many rules, so many files to write up, and there's the interfering parents too!
Tbh, this thread will always be useless. THREAD EDITED........ lolOriginally Posted by DaBeeeenster
