Sounds like a big scale load of key logging

    Run to the hills

As a kind of related thing - i built a new machine the other day - xp pro original disk. I disconnected everything else in my network and just plugged that into the internet - not AV, no firewall, no spyware, no hotfixes.

Then connected another machine up to monitor that one - and within about 6 mins it had a virus.

Get a hardware firewall. They stop just about everything except user stupidity (which is what software firewalls are for )

Ebuyer sell a 4port router for £15 (Safecom SBRU-10100) which includes firewall, usb print server and some other crap.

i dont recommend the ebuyer router. the print server doesnt work very well at all, the control panel is shocking and i dont trust the firewll. worth spending a bit extra for a belkin or netgear.

What models would you recomend then? Of the 5 routers Ive used this is the best, and also the cheapest.

What printer did you use? many manufacturers dont stick to specs, (lexmark for example) and so it wont work properly.

Control panel is better than all the others Ive used. The firewall is great, do a port scan on it, and some other simple tests. It a lot better than the 5 other products Ive used.

Never used belkin or netgear routers, but I assume they are very similar to other products aimed at retail channels like those from dlink and linksys.

This one I think is aimed at OEM and corp. use which is why youve probably never heard of it and why it is very good.

Do a smoothwall box if you have a spare comp.

If you need one which has a built-in modem i'd recommend the DG834(G). Excellent wired/combined modem router.

I like the connexant chipset rouers ( which I think the ebuyer one uses )

it has a proper telnet interface , which does everythign I need to (Ok so its not a n00b friendly , but thats the advantage of experiance )

    the NAT firewall is fine.

    Me?

Afaik there is only one version of the Safecom SBRU-10100?

It has ethernet WAN port to connect to modem of either kind, assuming the modem has a WAN port aswell (most ADSL modems do not but some do)
