ebay US / advice on a US postal receipt-Is he trying it on?

Hi! Need some advice on this ps!
This guy may well be honest but would like a 2nd opinion!

I was after 3 pairs of A&F trousers (old) on the US ebay but missed the auctions end,so it finished on $11 and with no bids. I emailed the guy to see if he would take the $11 and ship to the UK which he kindly agreed to do! He got back to me with an estimated $19 P&P which i was more than happy with As he had a FB score of 147 @100% i was happy to pay outside of ebay via a Paypal Money request,which he agreed! That was on Sun,but today i get an email (with pic of shipping receipt) telling me that he grossly underestimated the shipping cost and he would like another $20 to cover the shipment! ...Oh by the way he also said he posted the items to me!
Now i am thinking if this was me i would of asked before laying out the extra P&P! But saying that the receipt pic did look OK but for NO delivery address on it,as the UK vers does!


So guys any thoughts on what you would do in my situation?

If he agreed the costs, and you have an email to prove it, then you could justify taking the items and not paying him anymore. But that would be a bit tight in some ways, depends how you look at these things. It sounds to me like he made a genuine mistake but i would wait for them to arrive first before deciding what to do. Tough one. His mistake at the end of the day, but would they still be a bargin even with the extra cost? Maybe ofer to go halfs on the extra cost?

You could also check the shipping companies web site and try and work out if the cost he is quoteing is genuine. Does seem high, but it would not suprise me. Yeah, just wit and seem if you get them first.

It cost me 35 USD to air mail parcel post a 6 pound 12 ounce (just over 3 kilo) box (about 60 cm x 30cm x 30cm) to England from western New York.

How much do these pants weigh and how is he shipping them? I wouldn't think it would be more than 20-25 bucks. It's clothing, not electronics, and doesn't need as much packaging to be safe.

A&F are pretty heavy clothes prob 2 kilos max! So i would of thought $25 Max but $38 i doubt it! The reciept is just a GB & N Ireland Air parcel post does'nt say nothing about Rec,Ins or a Sig on delivery. There is a few no's on it but cannot tell if its a tracking No:! Dom thats a good idea i think i'll do just that!
Ps If i knew how to load a image i could show you,tried but cannot do it!

Shipping methods and company change costs drastically, you can't really apply one shipping method to another and you will also find volume is just as important as weight now.

Won't the postage costs be printed on the actual parcel?!?

You could tell him that you'll verify it on the box before making any further payments (if you're going to anyway)

It is possible for him to cancel the order if he's used a good delivery firm.

He can claim they were sent to the wrong address and would like them returned.

Just pay the extra mate, not worth the hassle.

As Cocopops says its a bargaiun anyway

I often end up undercharging for shipping but let the buyers off as the sale has been made.
It's up to you - if he has asked for it it would be nice if you could at least meet him half way, even if you wait until it has arrived.
Given the circumstances, I don't think the guy is trying it on, he just did you a favour and miscalculated the shipping costs.

Thats what i'm going to do,i'll wait and see what price is on the parcel! And if i am really satisfied i will pay him the whole amount! But ps bear in mind the 3 pairs trousers were 2nd hand and i would'nt of paid $38 P&P for used stride's!

Just to let you know the jeans finally came and were in such a bad state ie all 3 pairs had rips up the seams (70s look) He is not getting another dime out of me! LIBERTY!!
