i still don't get how 10kg of hi exp in that rocket would do more damange than 100kg of fertilizer bomb? Baring in mind cost of production/aquisition of each.

on the space race front, theres ment to be a good program on wednesday on BBC2 about that.

also what are you going to do with the rocket if u made it in your garage?
put 1/3 sweet vermouth and 2/3rd whisky in?

There is a variety of high explosives that are reasonably easy to make at home.

One of the most common high explosives used by terrorists (the kind used in the london tube bombings), acetone peroxide, has only 3 ingredients. Nail polish remover (acetone), hydrogen peroxide (from hair bleach or disinfectant), and drain cleaner (sulfuric acid).

The fule for the missile itself would be normal gasoline.

yes but why would an air burst detination be soo much better?

if your going to wrap it in nasty projectile in a claymore/nailbomb style, then surely it would be a lot easyer to launch it off a tower block? The tactical advantage of a missile is that you can be a fair few miles away, in your stronghold. terrorists don't need that?

I never said anything about an air burst detonation and I never said the missle would be a worth while idea.

The tactical advantage of this missle is that you are no where near it when it goes off and that you can be some place where no one will see you launch it, where you will never go again and hopefully never be traced to.

As for the time of detonation, it would be easiest to just let the impact detonate the explosive (acetone peroxide is rather unstable and would certainly detonate on impact, maybe even on assembly, or launch).

The down sides of this missile are huge. 10kg payload (10kg of acetone peroxide would do alot of damage, but there are better ways to deliver it), accuracy only within 100m (you would have to aim at a large sports statium/concert or something to have a good chance to kill a large number of people), a 5,000 dollar cost (easily a hundred times that of the explosive), and the time required to build it (easily dozens of times longer than what is required to make the explosive).
