diets are bad, you go one a diet, it's a real struggle to follow all the rules, you lose some weight, so you stop dieting and go back to eating what you use to and put on all the weight you lose, it's a sure way to a yo-yoing weight!Originally posted by not_your_punk
i need to diet, but whenever i try, the munchies come along and spoil it all for me. i might hav another go soon though, as i'm 5'11'' and 14.5 stone, so i could do wiv takin it down to bout 12 stone metinks. anyone know any diets that actually work?
just eat sensibly and healthily, you know what things to avoid, eat snacks of fruit throughout the day, have lots of vegetables in your meals, avoid pizza and burgers, i tend to cook lots of pasta and rice dishes with fish or chicken, without cheesy sauces don't bother with desserts, and don't snack on chocolate and crisps. at first it's a real effort but soon it just becomes your natural routine and you won't even think about it, i can't remember the last time i has a dessert and i might eat a chocolate bar / a bag of crisps once a month. it's all common sense and a lot of will power, if you really do want to do it then yo will. excercising every day helps tremendously too, half an hour of sometinhg that makes you sweat, riding your bike, swimming, jogging if that's your thing (i personally hate it), or the various exercise machines they have at the gym, i like the rowing machines, i usually do a 5-6km row a day. don't worry that the machines tell you that your not burning using that many calories, that isn't what is important, the fact that your fitter will mean your body has to use up more energy just to sustain you. with the exercise, draw yourself up a timetable, tick off that you've done it each day, if you miss a day then that's fine, but make sure you go the next day. there are so many books and videos out there with wierd and wonderful diets on them but you really don't need them, you know what you have to do, you just have to be motivated enough to really give it your all. good luck!
Congrats Bobby
Great effort... I'm finally down below 100Kgs for the first time in a year.. very pleased!
You've gotten a good point there... Dieting is only a small part of the whole weight loss / health regime. To achieve permanent weight loss is a total life-style thing - dieting is probably what is commonly known as the initial step, but healthy eating, cutting out the junk and snacks are equally important. Regular exercise will also help. But the most important thing is to achieve what some gurus (or whatever they call themselves) inner calm.Originally posted by fondie
