    Poor guy on Radio1

Who listened to Scott Mills yesterday?

This guy calls up (Ollie) and thinks his gf is doing something funny - anyhow, they phone his gf and do a prank thing offering her a room in a hotel for free, anyhow his gf asks for her and another guy Dave sommat.

They go back to Ollie and he has hung up.

    Listen again: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/netwo...dio1/mills_mon

You need to hit forward 15 twice (its was on essentially at 4:30 yesterday)

Do you think its right for Radio1 to do this to people?

Harsh, but the guy rang in, scott didn't hunt him down. He was repeatedly warned that these things don't always have a funny ending and at one point he even hinted at the idea that she might be seeing someone else.

Its a shame that in the modern age people want their 15minutes fame and they feel that they have to do that by exposing their private lives and feelings to the world for humiliation, big brother, popstars, x factor, all being prime examples.

That being said scott did a what i have to say is one of the better calls in recent times the other week...it was centred around the "i love you game" where you have to get the person you are talking to to say I love you, be it romantically, jokingly or whatever. This guy rings in and says that he wants to try and get his brothers wife to say "I love you" down the phone to him, live on air. What he doesn't know however is that the sister in law is in on it, scott has rung her prior to the prank call. He starts speaking to her, then eventually tells her that he loves her. She immediately jumps on this and acts as if she really does too, and was just scared that he didn't feel the same and didn't want to ruin things with his brother etc. The guy didn't know what to say and obviously didn't want to screw up his brothers marriage

Very funny but it does is trivialise the problem of nuisance calls which makes life very difficult for people like me who work in telecoms.

Nothing wrong with it. Apart from the fact that it is good radio, it is helping those people out. If she was cheating on him then he needs to know, and she deserves everything she gets....

Here is the section that relates to nuisance calls in the communication act 2003....

127 Improper use of public electronic communications network

    (1) A person is guilty of an offence if he-
    (a) sends by means of a public electronic communications network a message or other matter that is grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character; or
    (b) causes any such message or matter to be so sent.

    (2) A person is guilty of an offence if, for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to another, he-
    (a) sends by means of a public electronic communications network, a message that he knows to be false,
    (b) causes such a message to be sent; or
    (c) persistently makes use of a public electronic communications network.

    (3) A person guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable, on summary conviction, to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale, or to both.

    (4) Subsections (1) and (2) do not apply to anything done in the course of providing a programme service (within the meaning of the Broadcasting Act 1990 (c. 42)).
note section 4, although this probably pertains more to the actual broadcasting, even then the calls that are made are not "grossly offensive or of an indecent, obscene or menacing character" or "for the purpose of causing annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety to another,"

The second one is a little more vague, although the caller did say that she would not continue the call if the recepiant did not want to, she said this repeatedly. The anxiety caused may be more applicable to the guy, but he said he understood the risks. Also an important distinction is that this is one call, not 5, 10, or hundreds

There's a radio station in the states that does a 'Do you love me?' type thing where one half of a couple ring in and get the radio staion to ring their loved one and offer them a free bunch of flowers to be sent to whoever they want.

The idea is that the person being rung then sends them to the person who originally called the radio station.

This girl rang in, nominated her boyfriend who she said lived with her but worked away during the week. She hangs on the line all quite while the DJ rings the guy and tells him he's won a bunch of flowers... The Dj says they pulled his card from a pot in wherever it was and did hie go there often... the guy says he worked weekends there, which the DJ sounds a bit worried over as this guy's girlfriend says he lived with her at the weekends...

Anyway, he presses on, offers up the flowers and asks where he wants them sent, to which the guy says he'd like them sent to his wife... All hell breaks loose as the girlfriend butts in and goes ballistic, having obviously totally fallen for this guy's story and believing he was working away all week when he was actually living with his wife... the guy tried to talk his way out of it saying it was a joke and he wasn't married... and the DJ was left to just cut them both off and try and recover the show...

Bigboys.com were hosting the sound file of it but the site's down atm, otherwise I'd link it.

I feel for the idiots who decide to put their public lives on show for these shows.

BUT having said that at least the chap knows she's cheating on him so he can dump her as appropriate and move on

The guy wanted to know and he got his answer, not harsh at all, if you are stupid enough to get national/international radio to call your partner and it all goes wrong thats your problem. Sorry to say it but I was howling when he hung up, all he had to do was ask her outright what the crack was not get some numpty on radio to do it. The always kick off at this type of thing and everyone seems to forget the person who called in has been warned every other minute as to it can go wrong.

I dont care how they feel. If you phone up a radio show suspecting your other half, you deserve everything you get! What do you expect?
I have the same amount of sympathy for him as I would for someone that wanted to see that would happen if they jumped off a 15 storey building onto a concrete pavement.
