the majority of stuff i found over there was in bottles, more so than over here..

OK, you're being ridiculous. Standard alcohol content for a domestic beer is about 4.5%. You can look this up. Also, look up one of my favorite beers--Molson XXX (an import, but very common). Second, I always get 16 oz. bottles (how many pints is that....1). Yes, 12oz cans are common, but so are 24 oz. cans (we call them 'tall boys'). I know you have them in the UK too. You can also get 24 oz. bottles. The point is that there is a lot of variety.
