Sending money abroad

I need to send some money to a friend overseas to help them out. I've never done this before. Are there any recommended money transfer organisations that I should use and which ones should I avoid? I'm also concerned about security so I would want to use one that would require the recipient to show ID (preferably a passport) to collect the money.

Swift is the most common, as that is paid directly into a bank account.

Then theres weston unoin money transfer.

Basically does the person your giving dosh to have a bank account, if so are they over 18, and what country are you sending it too (take it your from england).

You can also go down to your local post office. They have been doing it for a couple of years now.

I want to avoid a bank transfer as the charges relative to the amount are extortionate. I want to transfer around £250 and the bank charges amount to around $45. Hence, I want to minimise the fees. Western Union seems to be the nest bet at the moment.

You could simply do it through PayPal if you wanted to do it online.

But you can do direct bank-to-bank transfer's somehow... I know how-to online, just not at an ordinary bank, I'm sure if you asked they would help you out.

I used to send money via my bank (Lloyds) you can opt to pay any charges so the other person dosent get charged another way is to use Paypal as long as they have a paypal account and a registered bank account.
