Simple - if you beleive that fatties should be refused treatment then you must believe that the health service should be privatised. That way your health insurance premium would reflect your life style.

You cannot tax someone and use that tax for a service then deny that service to someone who has paid for it!

Well I'm gonna go against the tide here and say paxmans a bit of a rubbishrubbishrubbishrubbish.

He's not even that good at argueing, he's pretty good, but there are many who are better. He interrupts too much to be really good at what he does, but when he does come out with good responses, he can be quite funny.

Not all that intelligent though, I don't believe.

As for the issue of fat people being refused NHS treatment, its stupid and wrong. The NHS is there to fix people up, not to judge who should be treated and who shouldn't. Everyone should get treatment when they need it, if you wanna cut back on things, cut back on the stupid cows who get breast enlargement ops because they cry to their doctor about feeling embarressed when they're out and about.

I'd be better at interviewing, proper cussing them down...

"Hey, you can't say that about Tony Blair!!"

    Hah, just watch me..

I'd be sooo censored and quite possibly held under the new anti-terrorism law, even though I despise religion and have no urges to harm anyone...

But on the issue of obiesity, if a person persistently comes back to receive treatment from the NHS, then surly that means the NHS can't help that individual and it is at this point that they are given free membership to their local gym.

Also, the government should put more and more pressure on these gyms to lower their membership fees, as they can be off putting to some individuals.

I'd rather see fat people who work & pay NI & taxes get treatment than pikeys who just sponge off us their entire lives, taking & never giving.

If we discount fat people then we should do the same for anyone who does anything of any risk and lets face it life is full of risks we all take.

Paxo seems good in comparison than your average newsreader who does nothing more than *read out* the news or what should more accurately be called a series of press releases from the government and whatever reuters/ap send them.

We should have regular *investigative* journalism around the stories in the news - like Jon Stewart does in The Daily Show for the US (check it out on more4 on sky its a satirical look at the days news).

We did have some good investigative journalism when two Daily Mirror reporters found a transcript between Bush nad Blair of Bush threatening to blow up the headquarters of a news-station of an ally. They were silenced by the government citing the Official Secrets Act.

The problem now is that there are so many woolly laws the government can use if they don't like what you say.

Exactly. Imagine the outcry if we refused Aids/HIV treatment for gay people because homosexuals are at a much higher risk due to their lifestyle. We should not be discriminating against people like this.

Smokers cost the NHS about £2 billion a year. They contribute about £7 Billion in tax (ish). Wouldn't the other £5 billion help? Talking of which, where is it?

I say anything we can do to help fatties is a good thing, after all who wants to look at them when the could be skinny? Could we not pair them up with annorexics, maybe they could work it out between them?

Imagine if the USA had this kind of policy? They could just close 90% of all their hospitals!

Or not, since they dont have an nhs.

Id be all for refusing treatment for things that are blatantly peoples fault, but only if they had been warned, for eg, fatty mcfat goes to doctors complaining about chest pain, doctor says loose weight, if he doesnt then he should pay for private treatment for anything arising from him being overweight.

By the same logic im against smokers being treated for lung/throat/whatever cancer, they have been warned, no one would have sympathy if i repeatedly hit myself with a hammer and broke a bone, if people do blatantly dangerous things they should be prepared to face the consequences.

I agree, no free health care for smokers when they get illnesses related to smoking. Of course you have to remove the tax on cigs then, so people will pay say, £1.50 a pack.

Smokers will benefit, the money they'll save will cover any private medical bills and then some(lots really) and the people who were too short sighted to realise that smoking pays for itself at least 3 times over can either pay more tax or enjoy an NHS that's been severly deprived of funds
