Hi Bleddyn, my mother suffered bowel cancer about 4 years ago and she also has a stoma and colostomy bag. She is 65 now and to say it's been difficult for her would be an understatement. But to go through what you did at your age and you seem to take it in your stride, is remarkable.
Her bag also "farts" which is a bit embarassing when on a plane or bus but people are very understanding when they realise why. Also the people who supply the colostomy bags shipped 2 months supply out to Australia for her when she stayed out there recently which was nice of them.

Anyway best wishes for Christmas and New year.

Stopping smoking can cause a reduction in the protective mucus lining the colon. When this protective mucus is reduced, the bacteria in the colon can attack the colon lining causing the immune system to become active and fight the bacteria. For unknown reasons, this causes damage to the lining (ulcers) of the colon walls in one or more places.

Resumption of nicotine either through patches or smoking can extend remission time although the benefits versus the other health risks of smoking are questionable.

    ^got that from Wikipedia!

-if i smoked 20 a day, this would never have happened!

i 'may' be able to have it reversed in a few months, if the infection dies down in the remaining part of the rectum.

the nurse took away my tramadol (but i managed to sneak 8 of them for future reference) and gave me cocodamol instead, i'm having the odd 2hour power nap now which is good, but i'm still awake for ages most of the time! i slept from 1am till 6am, then 9pm till 11pm today, so feeling kinda fresh now

i've been asked to tone down my emails a bit (its shock and horror to me too people i didn't ask for this!) so here goes

my new painkillers don't make me such a psycho (i showted at my mum for bringing me a plastic cup when i asked for a glass yesterday she took it ok tho) which is a good thing, but i get a lot more spaced out and my memory is kerput, i'm too scared to take my pills now beacuse i don't know when i took them last, so my mum's made a chart and my dad, brother and mum sign off my pills then give them to me, might make a graph or something soon

when i'm not keeping my mind busy, i get really agitated and worried, so i've been spending about 21 hours a day (between meals and washing) on the computer, i've got loads done and got a nice little project to work on this week, i'll put details up later this week.

i've uploaded pictures of where I live when i'm at home and the people around me HERE -no gross ones (apart from maybe the whale that decided my beach was a nice place to rest) -beerssummer is my favourite of the lot (looking podgy tho!)

caroline (caz) is my girlfriend, she appreciates the small things in life (her favourite film is amelie) and i love her to bits /expects from lee nick and ruari , bella is my dog, she's as laid back as it gets!, seren (star in welsh) is our new pup, and future sheepdog, tiggy is our 17year old cat, who's had more kittens than i've had hangovers! nina is my sister who married phil this summer, and barrie is their cat, and my mum will kill me for that photo of her!

there's a few pictures of my dodgy uni hair, i've got a photo somewhere of me in a suit with that hair, i'll get my housemate to bring it down for the weekend!

-i might have made a wedsite by the morning, i'm not sure yet, see if i get tired.

    take it easy guys

    bleddyn
sorry if i offended anyone before -this is an email i sent to work btw guys

edit- my cut got a bit infected, so its got iodene on it now and its stinking!

sure mate, go ahead with the gore

i'm going to make a nice cartoonie version too, and maybe a quake 3 login screen.. -nightmare or please don't hurt me.

i was on cortisone, 400ml a day for about 2 weeks iirc..

before i went in, i hated needles (and would look away in trainspotting at certain parts), i had an injection in the stomach every night (felt like fire) to prevent DVT, must have had about 20 of them, and about 5-6 blood tests too, i've had like 5 IV's in hospital and they did about 15 attempts -that hurt, now you could stab me with a cricket bat and i wouldn't care!

-edit, the co-cordimol side effects, i'm getting them, i'm still UP. i really wanna go to bed but i'm not tired, i'll lie to my mum and say i slept from 3-6 to keep her happy :S

Mate, what an ordeal! Some people just don't know how lucky they are to not go through this kind of event. But your outlook on life will be better for it, a lot of positive can come from this kind of thing.

One of my mates had bowl cancer and has the bag, as does my uncle who lost the use of his lower body in a car accident. It has not held them back at all, my mate even plays for his local football team. I'm pretty sure you can remove them some how too for those special times with the ladies

I found you site quite moving and think your openness is great (it will really help you, my mate chats about it in the pub sometimes. I think its a good way to deal with it) Anyway, puts all this fourm banter and sometimes silly arguing into perspective.

BTW, are you a vampire Pyle? Normal people sleep mate!

I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis around this time last year, I'm so thankful that it didn't get so bad - Glad to see you pulled through, and hope they can fix you up sometime in the near future.
