    Paypal Chargebacks

    Hello,

I have just sold a graphics card on Ebay for £180. The guy who won is has been registered since the start of September 2005 and has NO feedback.

    His payment though Paypal shows:

    Total Amount: £188.00 GBP
    Fee Amount: -£6.59 GBP
    Net Amount: £181.41 GBP
    Date: 1 Jan. 2006
    Time: 22:08:10 GMT
    Status: Completed

    Seller Protection Policy: Ineligible
Payment From: XXXXX Williams (The sender of this payment is Non-US - Unverified)

    And an unconfirmed address.

What is the likely hood that this is a fraud, and most importantly, how long should I wait until I send it out?

    Any advice is much appreciated.

It's not a fraud. If you have a premium account (like me) PayPal takes part of the money out and keeps it.

    It's quite annoying.

By the looks of it, it seems that it's all gone through properly. Just a noobie.

That's my PayPal account, little charge fee's everywhere

I'd ask for address confirmation, especially if it's a non-UK address. I may be paraniod though (check my thread about my recent PayPal woes on this very forum).

I'm not bothered to be honest... I'm sending a package to Austria next Tuesday which I charged £55 for. They paid me it, I send it to that address.
If something is wrong with the address they gave it's their fault and not mine.

It would be strange to give a false address anyway.....

I've sent many packages before to none confirmed UK addresses.

Edit: Also make sure to put a 'sender' address on the package, incase it gets lost in the post you get it back.

You guys are just been paranoid now.

If you want to be *EXTRA* safe, just wait to the funds clear into your bank account. Which I'm very sure they will do.

It's not being paranoid. If the account is hijacked or the card is stolen, paypal can take the money back off you. This is why I never deal with unverified people. I don't want to end up having sent the item and then having the money taken back by paypal.

Theres a linky on your account page. (Verify my account).

You have to do loads of stuff, like answer the phone at a certain time, and enter a code.

Worth it though, people trust you so much more!

While where on the topic of verifying addresses...

I recently closed my PayPal account, and opened a new one (I upgraded to "premium" without realising the implications)

But now I can't remember how to verify my address!

And also, all payments I make are being sent as "eCheques"... Which take Ages to clear.

    Any ideas? :s

    ^ ^ should be a link.

Log in, and view your account overview. Should be the first page that appears, anyway.
At the top, it lists your name, then below that your e-mail address, and below that, your status. This status, at the moment, should be "Unverified". Click on that, and it should give you all the info you need to verify your account.

I'd post a screenie, but too much personal info to edit out, and my account is verified anyway.

    Lol, just seen this;

Right. When I try to do the whole verification thang, I get the following :

The goal of this process is to verify that you reside at the address to which your credit card statement is sent. Therefore, you must add a credit card to your PayPal account. Please add a card below.
Sooo... I enter my card details... and I get this :

That credit card number is already assigned to another PayPal account. For security purposes, each credit card may only be assigned to one PayPal account. Please use a different card.
The only account this card is assigned to is this one Arrgghhh!

Ah right... Found the source of the problem.

Seems that the account is registered as both a bank account and a credit card. I had unregistered it as a bank account from my old PayPal account, but I hadn't unregistered it as a credit card.

All sorted now, and I just did the verification thang =D Cheers for the help. here's to hoping my payments don't go through as stupid e-Cheques anymore!

Does anyone know how long a paypal chargeback takes? Someone initiated one against me on the 6th/Dec, and they still havnt took any money from me, the guy was admittedly a flaming muppet, but still.

Have they forgot about it? Or do they take over a month to sort disputes out after they charge you so damn much ?
